I haven't been to my ''Alma Mata'' in months and months. But a cold, rainy night made for a perfect time to attend.
There was a election in October, so the reigns have been passed on, once again.
The club house was packed. And the evenings emphasis was on a raffle to generate funds for a family in need. And indeed the membership stepped up.
Last count was $3000 plus dollars in just a few hours. (that's more than all my bills for 2 months! Wonder if they could hold another raffle for really poor fishing guides named Dave?)
So many faces have changed. But there's still a few folks that were members 25 years ago, in attendance. Not many, but they were there.
Good ole Capt. George Strait (of Miss Mayport & Mayport Princess local party boat fame) was there, to say a few words. ''A few words he did.'' Which was, unlike him. But he did start off with a good joke. I was a bit surprised that it was 10 years ago when he was club president. Wow, does time fly!
One change I noticed and was very surprised about, was the club's President asking everyone to stand, face our U.S. flag, a repeat the Pledge of Allegiance.
I couldn't have been more impressed.
