YEP, A EAST WIND IS NOT THE GREATEST, THATS FOR SURE ON A FALLING TIDE OUT OF MAYPORT FLORIDA.
BUT, WE PREVAILED.
REPEAT ''GREAT CUSTOMER'' CLINT FROM OHIO, WITH HIS EXCHANGE STUDENT FROM SPAIN, AND HIS 8 YEAR OLD SON (GOING ON 12) REVISITED THE '''JETTYWOLF AGAIN''...LAST OCTOBER I HAD THE SAME CREW AT THE INLET AND IT WAS NEAR PERFECTION, JUST BOTTOM FISHING.
TODAY'S FORECAST WAS '''EAST-NORTHEAST'' 10-15 KNOTS AND BY 10AM IT WAS!
very cool, too. BACK TO WEARING FLEECE FOR ME.
THE MORNING ON THE PRE-NEW MOON HIGH TIDE WAS TOUGH.
ONLY BOXED A WHITING AND A YELLOWMOUTH TROUT (WEAKFISH)
BUT, I WAITED PATIENTLY FOR THAT FALLING TIDE TO ROLL AND THEN WE WENT ''FLOAT-RIG FISHING'', BECAUSE IT'S BEEN THE TICKET TO SUCCESS FOR ME.....ALWAYS IS IN THE SPRING TIME.
A FEW THROW BACK TROUT TO START, RIGHT OFF THE BAT WITH THE FIRST DRIFTS OF THE SHRIMP BEHIND THE BOAT.
THEN, CAME ''AZZ HANDER REDBASS'' AND SOME SPECKLED TROUT TO 20 INCHES.
AS USUAL.....THE REDBASS WERE ''MEGA-TIGHT'' TO THE STRUCTURE. AND GETTING THEM OUTA THERE WAS A NO WAY SITUATION AGAIN.
BUT ONE BIG 30 INCHER MADE A MISTAKE.
THE FIRST ''BIG'' CROAKER ON A FLOAT-RIG CAME TODAY TOO.
ALONG WITH A LARGE BLUEFISH....''THE OCEAN SCOURGE FISH''
THE RIVER WAS PURE DIRT!! WEE CAN NOT CATCH A BREAK. CLEAN NO DIRT WATER IS A 100% LUXURY ITEM ANYMORE.
GREAT FOR YOUR OUTBOARD MOTORS.......''NOT''
MY CREW CAUGHT ENOUGH KEEPERS FOR A FISH FRY.
TOMORROW: KIDS TRIP AT 8-10AM HOPE TO TROLL UP A FEW SPANISH MACKEREL
AND HOPE LIKE HELL FOR CALM AND LIGHT WINDS. AT LEAST IN THE MORNING WITH A 5 AND 8 YEAR OLD ABOARD.
THEN AT 11AM 80++ YEAR OLD HANDICAPPED A BIT BUD L. AND HIS CAREGIVER BY 11AM FOR FLOAT-RIG FISHING THE FALLING TIDE.
