LET'S TALK ABOUT MAKING THE MORA ELDRIS A BETTER PURPOSE BUILT KNIFE, FOR MY PURPOSES. AND YOURS ALSO. THE SHEATH NEEDS A BELT CLIP.
HERE'S HOW I DID IT, AND HOW I FOUND A EASY WAY FOR EVERYONE WHO WISHES FOR A MORA ELDRIS SHEATH BELT CLIP TO ALSO DO IT, INEXPENSIVELY. KEEPING WITH THE OVERALL MORA ELDRIS THEME. STRONG, USEFUL, EASY TO MAINTAIN.
I USE IT ON MY CHARTER BOAT TO DO A LOT OF CUTTING TASKS.
ESPECIALLY CUTTING "SUPER BRAID' FISHING LINE. I'M OVER THOSE CHEAP MICRO SERRATED STYLE "BRAID SCISSORS".
THEY GET DULL AND THEN THEY ARE TRASH. MY MORA ELDRIS, I CAN SHARPEN AND DO SO MUCH MORE WITH. IT'S MY EDC, MY BOAT EDC. MY FISHING EDC. NO MATTER WHAT IT'S UP TO THE TASK.
HAD A CALL YESTERDAY AT 4:00pm FROM A GUY IN TOWN FOR A VERY SHORT TIME.
AS I WAS PUTTING MY DINNER INTO THE OVEN.....HE WANTED TO GO FISHING RIGHT THEN AND THERE.
A HOUR BEFORE DARK THIRTY?
BY THE TIME I ''DROPPED WHAT I WAS DOING, LOADED THE BOAT, WENT TO THE BAIT SHOP, GOT TO THE RAMP, AND HE SOME HOW GOT TO ME, REAL FAST...IT WOULD HAVE BEEN D-A-R-K''
BUT, HE WAS FROM COLORADO.
YES, 90% OF EVERYONE THINKS, BECAUSE IT'S FLORIDA, WE FISH ALL NIGHT LONG.
NO, I SLEEP AT NIGHT. I FISH DURING THE DAY, I TOLD HIM.
I'M A IN THE SACK AT 9, AND UP READY TO GO AT 3:30am - 4am KINDA GUY.
HE SAID HE'D BE BACK IN TOWN AGAIN NEXT YEAR (oh boy...next year?) AND HE'LL BRING HIS BASS FISHING SON, AND RESERVE HIS TRIP EARLIER.
I SAID, ''I CAN TAKE YOU TOMORROW''. LIKE A NORMAL RESERVED DAY.
HE REPLIED, ''I'M FLYING OUT TOMORROW''
YES, I GET CALLS LIKE THIS THRU-OUT THE YEAR.
I REFER TO IT AS THE: ''OPPS, I SHOULDA BEEN STANDING AT THE DOCK AT PARADE REST WITH CELL PHONE IN MY HANDS, CALLS.''
YEAH, LET ME GO LOAD THE BOAT FULL OF TACKLE, BUY BAIT, FUEL, ICE, , AND JUST SIT AT THE BOAT RAMP ALL DAY.......''IN CASE I GET A CALL FROM A TUMBLE-WEEDER, WHO'S IN AND OUT OF JAX IN A DAY.''
OH, THAT'LL ONLY COST HOURS OF TIME, AND A MINIMUM OF $50 A DAY!
SOUNDS LIKE A PURE WAY OF GOING BROKE TO ME.....I'M ALREADY BROKE ALL THE TIME.
IF WE EVEN WENT TODAY.....''IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FOR ME A USDA GRADE MILL COVE KINDA DAY ANYHOW.'' THATS WHERE I GO THIS TIME OF YEAR ON A RISING TIDE, BLOWING, RAINING DAY WITH NO MORE THAN 2-3 PEOPLE. HERE'S A EXAMPLE OF A MILL COVE GUSTING TO 20+ KNOTS, AND RAINING WINTERY DAY, THAT WAS GREAT FUN WITH TIM FROM TAMPA:

DISCUSSION ABOUT A TITANIUM BLADE (WILL NEVER RUST) RESCUE AND SURVIVAL KNIFE BY L.S.C. - LIFESAVING SYSTEMS CORP. APOLLO BEACH FLORIDA. HTTP://WWW.LIFESAVINGSYSTEMS.COM WITH COMPARISONS TO MORE TRADITIONAL AND MORE EXPENSIVE NON-TITANIUM BLADE RESCUE STYLE KNIVES. THE TITANIUM BLADE PEAKED MY INTEREST. USED BY THE U.S. COAST GUARD, NAVY, AND OTHERS IN RESCUE AND SURVIVAL APPLICATIONS. DOES IT STAND UP TO CAPT DAVE'S SIMPLE TORTURE TESTING? SORT OF IN THE SAME FASHION AS A TITANIUM DIVERS KNIFE. VERY BASIC DESIGN WITH SOFT/FLEXIBLE SHEATH, WITH BIG BELT LOOPS AND GREAT RETENTION FEATURE. It's finally here. Variety "is" the spice of fishing life.
If you think November isn't considered a winter month in the lower 48 states. Take a trip to N. Dakota!
It may not be 10 degrees and snowing here in ole J-ville, but it's still officially winter. And in N. Florida, the varieties of fish species, I believe is what makes fishing so much fun when inshore fishing. (ie: the river, ICW, the local inlets)
Just this week, my charter customers and I fished out of Mayport and caught; Redfish, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Croakers, Whiting, Mangrove Snapper, Weakfish (locally called: Yellowmouth Trout) Pigfish, Pompano, Jack Crevalle, Flounder, Ladyfish, Lookdowns, Bonnethead Shark, Atlantic Sharpnose Shark, Seabass, Bank Bass, and yes, even Toadfish and Hardhead Catfish.
And a good amount of that list, all in the same day!
I normally have people "not" from around here on my boat for a days fishing. Surprisingly, locals are outnumbered 10 to 1, by people not from Jacksonville or even Florida. So, the variety of species caught in a day is a real mind bender for many folks. And very FUN.
Of course there's those fish we all want to catch. And even I have to take a step back sometimes and enjoy people having "enjoyment" with whatever is on their hook. Of course, I'll be targeting certain species. But many times the targeted species are not the easiest to catch, or even the most exciting.
Keep all that in mind. Especially if your kids, the infrequent fishing wife, or visiting in-laws, are out fishing with you over the upcoming holidays.
As I always say, "IT'S GO TIME" The winter fishing season (aka: No sweatin' fishing) is the best you'll get in Jacksonville for the inshore fisherman/woman. I live all summer in waiting for, RIGHT NOW!
ALL HALLOWS EVE BIG PUMPKIN FOR BIRTHDAY GAL. 10/31
yeah...Rachel with a stud, in early morning light. A ''I.G.'' Redbass, within minutes of anchor coming tight.
Mike, (aka: Dr. Dutch) got the next one, (after loosing a few from azz-handings...haha) before ''sea-flu'' set in for another crew member in the big rollies out at the jetties. Then, we simply bottom fished with shrimp for whiting, (got one too 16 inches!that was a whopper of a whiting), toss in lots of croakers also.
Earlene caught a Pompano, bottom fishing a shrimp inside the jetties. (our sea-flu victim) ---------------------------------- NOVEMBER 1 ''THE 3 AMIGOS FLOAT-RIG FISHING TEAM''
1ST SPECK OF MORNING, 23-1/2 INCHER....T-REX TROUT!
ANOTHER FATTIE - aka: ''sweetheart'', for Ken. A Returning customer from back before the Jettywolf was built. Last time he fished with me was in 2002!!! Glad to have him aboard with his buddies, again. THE ACTION WAS PRETTY GOOD. NEVER HAD A SINGLE ''THROW BACK TROUT ALL DAY. FOUGHT MANY A GOOD SIZE JACK CREVALLE, AND LADYFISH, BETWEEN US AND THE TROUT WE WERE AFTER. DIDN'T TAKE PHOTOS OF EVERY FISH (trout)...kinda redundant. AND CAN'T GIVE-AWAY MY SPOTS. (So many spot stealers around here)
Check out this ''chrome hub cap!'' A lookdown worth boxing!
a real battle....''light tackle float-rig fishing at its finest'' Ken, with a 13 pound Redfish. (and yeah a tiny #4 kahle hook) GREAT JOB KEN! (directly afterwards, we had a larger one who was lost and a even more challenge on a tiny hook and super ''L.T.'' - light tackle. But, it was fun to watch for us all.
BONUS, Black Drum that was a ''lurker''. When cleaning it, this fish had a bellyful of our shrimp, that the pinfish picked off our hooks, obviously. Black Drum don't peck baits. SO, THIS WAS A LURKER FISH, BEFORE BEING CAUGHT. (goes to show ya, looking at stomach contents teaches you how and what these fish are doing behind the boat.)
End of day fish box. The reason I love this time of year! Nothing but ''good eaters'', fish fry time for all. Get a good tide day. Low winds, a few angler crew and lets go catch some! Yeah, you can pick a day ''hilly-nilly'' out of the air and I'LL TRY MY BEST, IF YOU DO. Or, you can consult me about the bests dates/tides. Not all days are created equal. Not around these parts. Weekdays such as Mondays and Tuesdays are primo. Especially, if we have a great tide. From here on out till May, it'll all be about light tackle float-rig & live shrimp fishing, toss in some jig-n-shrimp, and some bottom fishing.

TODAY'S VLOG VIDEO: 10/22 - THE DAY BEFORE THIS TRIP WE HAD WHAT I'D REFER TO AS OUR FIRST ''NOR'EASTER''......IT'S THE TRANSITION TIME OF YEAR. BULL REDFISH ARE SPAWNING, AND THE FLOAT-RIG FISHING (a traditional way of fishing from St. Augustine Florida, north thru Jacksonville, Florida, up thru coastal Georgia, at least)
Where using the current to drift ''slip-float'' style fishing rigs, with live shrimp for bait, catches it all.....''once the water temps, cool off.'' It's more difficult in the St. Johns river, in Jacksonville because of all the bait-stealers, when the water temps are in the 80's. The magic water temp is usually, 70-72 and below. SPECKLED SEA TROUT, are my real forte. But this FUN, ACTIVE, AND EASILY LEARNED traditional fishing method / technique is all about Light Tackle Fishing, for MAXIMUM challenge!
NOT, a group affair (due to tangles), so my best QUALITY CHARTERS from Oct. to May is a max of 2-3 persons. With 2 the best, because there's only two sides of the boat. AND YOU WANT ME, TO BE ABLE TO FISH A BIT WITH YOU. It's the only way, I'll be able to know what's going on at each spot, sometimes.
10/20/2018 with Aaron and Noah. FIRST BAIT OUT, AND IN 5 MINUTES OF DROPPING ANCHOR. AARON GETS HOOKED UP ON A BIG REDFISH. USING A CASTNETTED LIVE MULLET WITH NO TAIL!
