8/18 - COMING SOON, but not soon enough!!!!

pulled from the video ARCHIVES: (my YOUTUBE CHANNEL)

2013 First of October. REPORT on air temp, weekday fishing, and TROUT!
This will be coming around soon. And I can't wait.

I love pitchin' with super "LT", and Matrix Shads on lead-heads, so much I wish I lived in Louisiana!!!!    (where that's basically all ya need to catch F-I-S-H)

But around here, it works a lot better when the water temp ISN'T 86 degrees!
Ran across this "video report" from last year at the jetties and thought I'd share it one mo' time.

Personally, I'd be getting ready to reserve a day ANYWHERE near a HOLIDAY.
(Labor day is fast approaching) Right now!!!!!!!!!

8/14 - Take your Daughter, Jacksonville Fishing

JUST BECAUSE IT'S BACK TO SCHOOL TIME DOESN'T MEAN IT'S NOT "STILL" FISHING TIME.  TAKE YOUR BEST GAL, FISHIN'.
www.captdaves.com - advanced reservation required.

Let's go have FUN.

----------------------------------------------------------------

"The Video is great. It does not show how great the trip was. I have been fishing all over the greater US and Mexico and I can tell you that I have not been on a better trip then this trip. All my daughters and my needs were meet, the fishing was great. The boat and equipment were of the highest quality.  I will reschedule the next time I'm in Jacksonville. Thanks again for a fabulous trip and a lifetime experience shared with my daughter. "

TY...... Shaun

8/14 - BIG Shark charters in Jax? LOL!!!

Yeah, as usual I had huge plans. This summer was going to be a total experiment. And the facts are in, already in my book.

I wanted to do max. two persons, with "REEL GUYS" and target the truly big sharks just offshore.
And as you can plainly see here on my reports, it's not what I've been doing much of so far.....

"Yeah me and the family would like to go out shark fishing for the big ones. We surf fish......."

"I want the biggest shark ever. How much???"

So far all summer I've had TWO...count them ONE+ONE=TWO times that we did what we needed to do to target REAL Sharks. And out of two attempts, we caught one MONSTER. Okay not bad, that's 50/50.

Let's see what else I have tried in Jacksonville during the summer...
Oh yeah, years ago I was going to run out and try nothing but "vertical jigging" aka: Butterfly jigging methods. Bought the tackle, went over board and had ONE GUY who I did it with and it was a great success. Loads of Amberjacks and Cuda's. But hell, this is J-ville, not Miami. That's for sure.
After awhile I gave it up. And sold all the tackle that was needed. Experienced Fisherman is what that took.

The morale of the story is there just isn't enough die-hards that fish Jax. I'm not running offshore with the Family Affair thing. I need just a couple "REEL GUYS", ones that have fishing experience. Someone who understands that a 500 pound Bull, Tiger, or whatever Shark isn't going to be
"I.G." - Instantaneous Gratification!!!!!!!

We may or we may not even get a bite. Again, this is J-ville. Not 2 miles off of Palm Beach in "Gulf Stream waters".

No matter what I do, I have the best intentions. Problem is, I guess it's only what "I WANT TO DO".
I wanted to be in the Newspaper with huge Shark catches all summer. Get them to the boat, make no mistakes, not just break a rod each time out.

Yes, it's frustrating. I get e-mails, "I'm not interested in Sharks, I just want Kings and Cobia".
Well, that's your first problem.
Fishing isn't a trip to the Walmart!  I do SPORT FISHING CHARTERS. Not, GROCERY STORE CHARTERS, especially during the summer.

When I'm anchored up on a reef. There's no telling what we'll catch. My second attempt at offshore BIG Sharkin', we didn't catch any Sharks, but we had 3 Cobia come up around the boat and caught one. Along with a Snapper and had a blast catching very willing Cuda's.....about 20 of them!

My customer Chris, that was on that particular trip said it best;
"I go fishing the way you should approach finding a good woman. Don't Go Looking, for that particular one. Just go have fun, and then all of a sudden. You'll catch the fish on your bucket list, and meet the gal of your dreams! It's all just fishing, either one, RIGHT?"

8/8 & 8/10 - Mayport Jetty bite, August Heat

2- days:
8/8 - Terry Hicks, Bass fisherman from Tenn.
8/10 - Mike & Phil, "regulars" from Middleburg Fl.

Enjoy, because I work hard making these and yes enjoy doing these these for you.

AUGUST DAYZ.......keepin' it close. No long boat rides. Plenty of action.
Lot's a "toothy critters", in amongst some decent "Gamers".
Hell, it's pinnacle o' summer, in Jax.

Sunday, August 10, 2014

8/8-8/10 - HOT SUMMER DAYZ

Hot, Humid and stick a fork in me, when is winter getting here?

August in Jax....probably the same as August in most of Florida. But here we have to WORK at FISHING when the water temps 86 degrees.

There's a lot of teeth out there this time of year, too.

8/8 - I'm trying to complete a video of Terry H. a Tenn. Bass fisherman out for a day of jetty fishing.
No photo's just video. Maybe someday I'll get the video done.

8/9 - Bryan and Zoey.....she was as cute as a button and a natural Anglerette! From Croakers to Sharks to Big Redbass we had it all. Amazing, smart 11 year old who was a pleasure to have aboard the Jettywolf.

Her dad stretching a string a few times:

On Sunday, 8/10 had Mike and Phil aboard......VIDEO COMING
we float-rig fished live Pogies down the jetty rocks for two Redbass, one 27" and one 32"

Still working on putting video together. But no days off till Wednesday. And sleep? I am deprived at the moment. So, editing video right now I just can not do.

NEXT UP:
Monday 1/2 day - 2 adults
Tuesday full day - 2 adults
Thursday 2 hr Kids trip
Saturday - 3 adults

Don't be a late comer. Book your charters before leaving your house if you coming to visit J-ville.
But then again, late comers will never see or read this. So I say it to the wind......

8/6 - 1st Croaka's, 2nd Redbass, 3rd Blacktips

Let me start off by dragging this video into the report from the archival vault of :  Capt Dave's You Tube Channel

THIS IS ""L.T."" - light tackle. Most of my customers are on the "charter L.T.", when pursuing BIG 100 pound ++ Blacktip Sharks, behind the shrimp boats.

In this video, I was Jetty drifting....not even behind a shrimp boat. Jus' drifting off the end of the south jetty rocks.

MORAL:  If you think what you did was hard, there's always HARDER. Which equates to LIGHTER tackle. Now, I ain't talking "lighter in weight". I hope when I talk tackle, that's not what people think. I'm sure novices do. But what I'm talking is  "lighter" as in smaller reel, whippy rod, less line, less line strength, and less line capacity.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Because today Bruce hung a few big boys and the first one gave him a "LT" fit !!!!!!!!!!

Then it was his step-son's turn.....

In no way do I believe in "sitting down", because I'm all about "stand-up and take it!!!!. Sitting is what accountants and kids do. Not Me!  Have ya ever seen me sitting when going toe to toe with a monster anything? And ya never will, either. But hey, not everyone is ME.   (hahahahahaha)

Prior, I had my crew which consisted of three kids and one adult catching bait....CROAKERS, to keep live for Sharkin'. Live Croak's make goooooooooood Sharkin baits.

As what many times happens when dropping down small cut pieces of dead shrimp, we catch a BIG Redbass.  Yes, Elephants eat peanuts too, is the ole saying.....

Of course I love it, because I know it's gonna happen. Especially when I see the boat near us catch one too.....except they didn't know how to release it and it floated around "belly up" for a few hours.
Don't know why people won't release these big Reds right. Must be a dumb-ass redneck thang, I guess.

NEXT UP:  One "solo" Bass fisherman from Tennessee on Friday. This ought to be FUN.
Saturday, just two guys out for FUN.
Then, Mike & Phil some regulars on Sunday.

So NO, I don't have this weekend open. Should have thought about fishing before Friday night at 7pm.

8/2 - Rough waters, EAST Flow

Yes, East flow means everything was coming from the East, or at least the S.E. The breeze, and the seas.  Had the Darling Crew aboard today and started out at the beach tossing the net for Pogies.
Had a plan to fish them on the bottom and not worry about the sharks. If they bit us off, I'd just deal with it.

First fish, a 20 pound Redbass. Second fish a healthy Bonnethead Shark, third fish.......SPOOLING Mike!  Yep, he hooked something that hit the surface twice, frothed  and then took off EASTWARD, as the line on my Shimano Triton 200's drag smoked off 200 yards.

We still had it!  So I pulled the anchor, and gave chase. Right up to the South Jetties green buoy where it wrapped around the buoy chain and finally popped Mike off.

WOW, and we never saw it. Had no idea if it was a huge shark that ate a "cut" piece of Pogie. And how it didn't bite thru the 50 pound Mono leader?

Was it a Shark?  Was it a Tarpon that tried to jump in the super current and didn't get airborne?
Who knows. But exciting is a calm word to describe the mayhem in the 4 foot rolling seas south of the south jetty.

-Due west winds...NOT GOOD
-Due east winds....NOT GOOD

We had neither. Just huge "SLOP-CHOPPY" seas. Of course NO ONE, but the JETTYWOLF could ever anchor in.  Other's tried, other's left out to never come back.

But it was good current. But the bites faded fast after re-anchoring up after the chase.

No video, and just one 20 pound Redfish photo today kids......

Tried all over the around the jetties for action. Only found a few small Whiting the rest of the day.

Same "Flow" is coming on Sunday too. Have to find a different plan.

7/31 - TAKE YOUR GAL, FISHING!

Mayport Jetties.......

Live Pogies and 3 gallons of dead ones in the "GOT CHUM" chum chopper on the JETTYWOLF.
Brought in the Redbass. Along with some serious "ass handers" that'll eat what ever ya got.

Wanted a super Blacktip Shark on the "HDT" - heavy duty tackle. But only had 2 hook-ups. One behind the shrimp boats.

And one on the inside of the North Jetty. The rest went for the "L.T." - Light tackle, and of course we couldn't do much about it when they ate the bait.

It was H-O-T at 9:30am even though the National Weather Service said we set a new record LOW at 68 at sunrise, versus the average temp of 74.  Whooooopeeee!
We never felt it.

A SIMPLE, HEADS UP:
DO NOT WAIT TILL THE LAST SECOND TO RESERVE YOUR DAY.
DO IT WHEN YOU'RE AT HOME!  BEFORE YOU EVEN LEAVE YOUR HOUSE TO COME TO
J-VILLE. PLANNING IS A BIG PART OF FISHING LIFE.
I HAVE EMAIL & A WEBSITE. YOU'RE ON MY DAILY REPORTS BLOG PAGE RIGHT NOW.
LIKE PUTTING ON SUN SCREEN..."DO IT AT HOME, NOT WHEN IT'S TIME TO FISH."

7/30 - Fun 2 hour KIDS Trip

Had the Shannon Family aboard....for a 2 hour Kids trip. Lot's of Croakers, a few Whiting, Catfish, and hookup on a Shark that ended up breaking off the whole rig.

Then, off to a shrimp boat to see what was going on behind it.

B-I-R-D-S!!!!!!  getting yanked under water by hundreds of Sharks frothing the water behind the shrimp boat as they dumped over some bycatch. We saw Sharks big and small and Dolphins big and small. A few really tiny baby Dolphins.

Awesome weather. Flat puffy clouds just offshore.
Another Fun, Educational, 2 Hr. KIDS trip!
Only from Capt Dave's Sport Fishing.
aboard the KID friendly JETTYWOLF.

7/29 - ON WATCH!

Lots to learn about possible NEXT Tropical Storm:

7/27 - Just Jetties....

Had Thomas and Curtis aboard for "jus' jetty fishing" today in the blowin' 15 knot due WEST winds that was a huge pain.

A few Blacktip Shark bites and hook-ups (LOST), a 30+ pound Redbass, lots of Croakers (bait) and a few real nice sized Whiting, and a 100 pound Nurse Shark. Rounded out the day.

The wind was the problem. Not a great direction, and kept blowing us off anchor.

Here's some PICTURES of the day. No video today....sorry. Wore out from editing others.

Starting off the morning at the bait shop, then sat in Navy traffic for 30 minutes.
Wonder why the hell I moved 5 minutes from the boat ramp, when I can't even get to the damn boat ramp from all the squid traffic. Not a fan of the Navy. Also lost valuable fishing shoreline, that I make my living from, in which I can't fish any longer. Thanks to them also.

A reason to fish outside the jetty rocks....SHIPS?

Here's the Big Redbass: OVER 30#'s

Here's a small catch that Thomas made. The cute little Octopus. These guys are smart and so clever.

After loosing a few Jetty Blacktip Sharks. Thomas caught a 100 pound Class Nurse Shark on a mutilated via a Blacktip, what was a live Croaker. Which was perfect food for the Nurse Shark.

Fishing got really tough as the day wore on. So we headed back to the dock at 1:30pm

NEXT UP:
Wednesday-Thursday -Sunday, at this time.
-hope the wind stops.

7/26 - Jacksonville's Mayport Jetty Shark Fishing

The ZOO is finally over!
Greater jax Kingfish tournament(s) and that weekend Red Snapper season, all at the same time.

I guess we can get back to "REGULAR'ness?" And the boat ramp can go back to normal?

Shrimp boat sharks, have all been small to damn near nothing worth doing.
But, as the tide falls at the jetties....here they come. (Blacktips and Spinners, and other drag smokin' mystery giants)

While just fishin', your line starts to move away at a very fast pace. Whatever you have hooked up will get eaten. As soon as that tide starts to fall along the outside of the rocks.

99% of everyone out there, is not prepared.

After loosing rig after rig. We stepped up the tackle. Ronny and I worked (2) absolute freight trains. One on light tackle and one on what should have been the perfect tackle. Only to have broke off rigs again!

So, I stepped it up to 9/0 reel with a "unlimited" monster rod. To just get Ronny any SHARK!
He was basically the "newbie" on the boat.....and he sure did get an education today.

From: Sea Bass (of course) to Bonnethead Sharks to Freight Trains, to Blacktip Sharks.

OH, WE HAD ACTION!

And a cooler full of decent "fish fry" Whiting they left me, and a Jetty Spadefish.

NOTHING FANCY, 2 pounds of dead shrimp. Croakers for bait, a lot of re-rigging all day long. And then a stuck anchor at days end that needed to be "perplexed" loose out of the jetty rocks.

Ronny was feeling a bit seasick most of the day. Sure glad I didn't run to a offshore reef to  do my Sharkin'. The word first thing this morning was once past the Sea Buoy it was very swells very close.

So I spun around and went straight to the North Jetty.

"DO YOU HAVE G-A-M-E??"

More to come. THIS WEEK.

So.....stay tuned.

7/23-COBIA vs. CUDA, while Shark Fishing

SINGLE PERSON "SOLO" CHARTERS are kinda special to me. Especially when it's my ole customer Chris. Talk about a laid back, fun guy to fish with.

He said to me, "Fish ought to be like women. Don't go looking for that specific one. Just go, have fun and if it's meant to be. You'll find the one you're after!"

SO TRUE!
Too many people want a laundry list of, "I want this, I want that..."
That's not the way fishin works.

Just have FUN.

7/22- 500 lb. TIGER SHARK ON BARRACUDA BAIT

I feel sorry for the folks that "Do Not" do their homework, and visit this reports blog.
Before booking their day aboard the JETTYWOLF....it's not like I see reports like these on any other charter service website!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7/20 - Just a short Viddy-O.

Here's a few photo's from Friday. We sharked, we bottom fished. We sat thru rain & wind. We tried for big Redbass and had to use 16 OUNCES to hold the bottom (Huge Fail) there's just times you cannot fish on the bottom of the St. Johns River!!!!!!!!

***coming soon......7/22/14 offshore 500 pound Tiger Shark catch video!

Thursday, July 10, 2014

7/10 - It's called "FISHING"...with a bit of Agony sometimes.

The rest of the story went like this......

We caught some Sharks, all small ones. No big Blacktips behind the Shrimp boats.
Then, barely caught some Pogies in 36 feet of water, for live baits.
Took them up in the river for Bull Redbass fishing.
Hooked TWO giant unknowns that we think were bull Redbass..and lost each one before seeing them!

7/8 - Happenings...in Mayport

Yesterday, "yeah in the middle of the summer!!!!" they are building a brand new boat ramp in the middle of the two boat ramps where the wasted space of that grass berm was, at the Mayport Boat Ramp.

Naw, couldn't do it in Feb. or March, that makes too much sense!  So, this means a giant barge with a crane will be the newest obstacle for us to navigate in the swift current of the river for who knows how long.

I contacted the City Dock Master and asked, "Are ya kidding me? I hope that barge isn't sitting there during the Greater Jax Kingfish Tournament hustle and bustle?"

His response was; "The barge will be moved out of the way that week."

We'll see how all this takes place. Plus, we're supposed to get more floating docks.

I'll add video and photos I'm sure.  Gotta "watch dog" these things. Because the whomever is usually clueless.

------------------------------------------------------------

I do monthly CYBER-ANGLER website reports.  I kinda went over board on this one. Since I wasn't in a hurry to get it done.

Here's a LINK to it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

CROAKERS, (aka: Croaka) have shown up at the jetties. GREAT for kids to catch. And cheap and fun baitfish to catch. Hardy as all hell. A dozen live Croaka in the livewell will catch everything from Sharks, King Mackerel, Snappers, and giant Redbass in the river.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Still looking for someone who'd like to (2 persons) do a "pursuit" of a 500 pound Bull, Tiger, Hammerhead Shark fishing trip. OFFSHORE!

Chum, bait and wait for the MAN!  I have the tackle. But you must have the willingness to wait on the bite. No BS'n around. GOAL:  Catch a Newspaper worthy sized Monster Shark, sweat, and Video, Photo, and release. Fishing and patience experience is a must. Most likely won't be instant gratification, but ya never know?

Example:

7/4 - Independence Day-Jacksonville Fishing

WOW.....after the passing of Arthur, the inlet bottom on either tide was "carpeted" with Hardhead and Sail Cats!  We tried twice, in the morning on the falling tide and later in afternoon on the flood tide.
Yes, in between there were a few Jacks, And Croakers and Whiting but not many.

AND ZERO Blacktip bites on LIVE Croakers or (BIG Redbass) bites on the bottom inside the jetties also.

So. The passing of Arthur did disturb the bottom at the jetties, for sure!!

MORE trips coming this week to include "KIDS TRIPS" and a few regular 6 hr days.
