12/12 - Kinda like the Jaguars?

Well, finally a nice day.

Too nice, I guess.

The fish only wanna bite when it's 25 knot winds, maybe raining, and cold as hell.

Had James and Marty aboard today. Good fisherman from up north in NJ & Del.

They shocked me because they were so early. When I pulled into the boat ramp parking lot they were there already!  That's a freak thing. Not many of my charters go that way.

I'll skip all the dull details....but there wasn't diddly going on at the jetties. We attempted to float-rig fish, bottom fish, pitch slabs (jigging), then back to K.I.S.S bottom fishing, where by then 6 ounces would not hold bottom, but anchors DO!

I had to leave my anchor out there in the rocks. I made it almost 3-4 years without having to cut one off. But this time it wouldn't budge!

SO THERE GOES A $150 DOLLAR BILL!

THERE'S NOTHING LIKE GOING BACKWARDS, WHEN YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE GOING FORWARDS.

So we went back to the ramp to get a spare out of my truck. At least I'm smart enough to carry a spare.

By this time, we've caught 2 Toadfish & 8 Seabass! Yee haww!

Head up river and it was basically the same, a few dink Trout, a few dink Yellowmouth, fast dying current, and one keeper:

So we came back to the dock and I fed 4 dozen live shrimp to the birds and went home.

Yep, I felt like the Jaguar's owner.

Except, if he looses an anchor no biggy. For me loosing that kind of coin is a royal pain in the wallet.

And not winning  on the fish, for these guys just had me drinking a few more PBR's when I get home.

The Jag's owner probably just buys a bigger boat after each Jag loss.....

Did ya see that thing??
Had footage of it in my last video.

12/7 - Bad weather; Can't keep the Jettywolf on land!!!

Well, Mitch was supposed to go on Thursday....when Nick & I went. But then couldn't.
So he picked Sunday instead.

-Still a FULL MOON TIDE

At 10am it was windy cool but fine. By Noon the wind started to howl, by 12:30 it started to "Fog rain"...not a down pour, but yes everything and everyone was wet. And the temp dropped and the wind blew 25 knots N.E.

BUT, did we have FUN?
You bet.
Did Mitch catch some fish?
You bet.

12/2 - DAMN, it's December already.......

That means the cool weather months are about 1/2 over already here in Jax. Florida!
Which makes me very sad, because I love winter so much here, I wish It would stay cool or colder than 99.99 degrees all year long.

Damn, that's depressing.  So much fishing to do.

I guess I just need to go without YOU.

11/30 - A JETTYWOLF MOMENT; Flutter Slab Spoon R&D

Started the morning with Butch T. and family....we were at the Jetties when Butch started to not feel all that well. Butch wasn't a young man, but he was a tough ole guy. So after about 15 Whiting and a big Bull Redbass hooked up and lost.  We went back, just incase Butch wanted to bag the day. He didn't want to quit, and he wanted his son and son-in-law to continue the day.

But they said, "No Way".  The ole man wasn't gonna sit in the truck all day long. So we basically did a 1/2 day.

So afterwards I went to where we were going to head to anyhow later on.

Up in the South "ditch"......the I.C.W. also known as the Ghetto Cruiser Hiway!!!!!
OMG, the traffic.  That's why I hate the I.C.W. on weekends.

But I stuck with it and caught about 20 Trout, dropping my limit in the box, and caught one pup Redbass. Using and doing R&D, with my box of "slab spoons" with FISHBITES, and trying out this Flutter Spoon you see in the video.

FISH FRY at Dave's Ranchero Delux Fish Camp, this week......Mmm, Mmm, Good!

11/26 - HOOK SHARPENING with the WORKSHARP

http://www.captdaves.com
Capt Dave's Sport Fishing; Since 1996 Your full-time Capt. & Guide to NE Florida Coastal Angling.

"A JETTYWOLF F.Y.I"

Capt Dave shows his new plated "Flutter jigs", but the hooks could use a bit of sharpening

WABAM! Heck, I have a great sharpener, already. The WorkSharp knife and tool BELT sharpener. Think I'll use it on these hooks.
WABAM! It works like a dream, without harming the hooks one bit.

Yeah baby! Another job well done by the WORKSHARP!

11/26 - Nastified Thanksgiving ??

Well, it's 4am the day before Thanksgiving 2014, right now. And it's NASTY out there.
Re-scheduling good customer Traveller Bob, hopefully tomorrow. And then, I have 3 guys on Friday.

(SATURDAY IS STILL OPEN.....when the weather is supposed to be the best. But I guess no one wants to fish with good weather?????????)

Speaking of fishing ill-prepared;

GO2MARINE each year about this time has a massive BLOW-OUT Sale on GRUNDENS foul-weather gear (sizes vary)

Personally, there's no better Foul weather gear in my book than good ole GRUNDENS. Simple and oh so tough, nasty weather gear.

Click on LINK to check it out if you'd like:
LINK: http://www.go2marine.com/search.do?q=grundens

GUESS, over the next few days, I'll give the ole Float-Rig Fishing a try.
It's gotta be time to catch some Trout at the jetties!!  LAST YEAR: it wasn't till the day after Thanksgiving till I slaughtered them in the Mayport area.....Kinda funny, huh?

And the day after Thanksgiving of 2013 it was 100% GALE FORCE winds in the St. Johns River. So "we hid out". And still caught them.

ALWAYS on the look out for BIG Yellowmouth Trout too.....aka: "weakfish". For the sole reason there's NO REAL LIMIT!  100 per person per day! And they can be like attack dogs when the "specks" are like finding a needle in a hay stack.

Yes, "the other Trout" as I refer to them as. Are not the Glory species. But, the action can be thru the roof on them.  And now, since I'm playing with my "slab spoon" jigging technique. It opens even more doors to finding them in the deeper swifter water they frequent.

11/23 - "A FISH FRY MOMENT"; Jettywolf's Trout Fry, per request

Remember....let those fillets sit in the fridge for a day after tossing in the Fish fry Mix.
This is a technique I just ran into, via being busy and ending up not cooking up my fish when I planned too.

There's nothing like a good ole fish fry...Invite the friends and family, make sure they show up with their own lawn chairs and a cooler full of very cold icey "PBR's" .

1st. LET'S GO FISHIN'
2nd. Catch Fish
3rd. Have Capt Dave fillet-debone-and bag up your catch
4th. GO heat up that skillet and oil!

11/21 - MORE..... Ole Yellers on the SLAB

Left out about noon, just to make sure the "slab fishing".....see video in post below this one.
Because there's an ole saying I go by.

"One day full of fish can be, just luck, two days full of fish means; ya know what you're doing"

So, I had to go see if catching fish on the SLAB yesterday, just wasn't luck.

OH...(after watching the video ) ya probably are wondering what the hell is the SLAB??
Well, here it is.....
It's a plated lead lure with a unique shape that makes it waggle and wobble. It weights in at 1 oz. and I can add on my own "small" hook of choice and style. I use a 1/0 Siwash open end hook, that I just "put on" the SLAB.

Is it a lure, or a bait presenter?  It's both!!  And the reason is just that. It can be jigged, wobbled, and  unlike a "jighead", can impart action to a bait.

But the funny thing is I haven't even used it with bait YET! (IE: Shrimp)

I've been using FISHBITES synthetic bait, just to add SMELL to my wiggling , wobbling SLAB. While jigging it in deep water.

A piece of cut belly strip of a croaker, whiting or whatever would work the same.

Why, does it just catch Weakfish, or locally known as Yellowmouths?  It doesn't just catch them. It's what was in the area I was fishing.

If the bottom was carpeted with Redfish, Specks, or Flounder, I'm sure it would have caught them, too.

Think of it this way; A  1 ounce jighead is large and usually has a hook way bigger than I'd ever want to use. A jighead doesn't add in any "ACTION", either.

So today I went back out, as I was saying and tried the SLAB all over again. #1 it's fun to use. #2 doesn't hang up all that often, and I can add any hook I want.

INNOVATOR?  Yes, I am. But these style jigs are not new. Freshwater fisherman have been vertical jigging these for decades. A long time lure called a Bomber Slab jig has been in many a deep lake fisherman's tackle box.

Big difference is, using it here in Bazzaro World, full of monster current......toss the word vertical out of the dictionary. Unless, the tide is completely DEAD!

Today, I filled up the box with at least 12 Yellowmouth Trout, but they were smaller than yesterday.
But for this fish fryer, it really doesn't matter.

Fried in Zaterains, or Louisiana Fish fry mix, deep kettle full of oil on the fish frier, add in a few cold PBR's and I'm set.

JUST ANOTHER TECHNIQUE, THAT I'LL BE EXPLORING,

ALL BECAUSE THIS COULD WORK IF YOU ARE A EXPERT FISHERMAN OR A ROOKIE. JUST PITCH IT OUT AND JIG IT OFF THE BOTTOM......WITH REAL BAIT, NO BAIT, OR ARTIFICIAL BAIT.

I'm constantly working to make your fishing charters aboard the Jettywolf better.

(I PREFER TO ADD IN SOME SMELL BECAUSE OF OUR WATER DEPTH, AND COLOR......brown and dark!

11/12 - A JETTYWOLF MOMENT; "with World's Most Interesting Man"

SELF EXPLANATORY....I had "the World Most Interesting Man" aboard the Jettywolf the other day. He had a problem with Whiting, and they had a problem with his
"World Famous Bright White Shirt!"

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah....

11/14 -November Chill Down; Fishing Mayport Jetties

IT WAS CHILLY......but I'm still seeing TARPON along the rocks. And even hooked one on a jig-n-shrimp combo meal last week at the end of the north jetty.

It's GO-TIME, aboard the Jettywolf. My favorite time of the year. Go; 2.5 miles and come back, 2.5 miles and make a fish fry!

* Redfish, (aka: Redbass)
* Black Drum
*Whiting
*Croakers
*Trout
*Flounder
* and much more.

NO long boat rides to a distant land. More time with lines in the water!
So, get that skillet ready, chill down the cold beers, and hopefully you'll catch you some fryers. (weather permitting)

All you'll need is a plastic bag with a sandwich or two, a few drinks, a HOODED SWEATSHIRT, a fisherman's best friend, and the willingness to F-I-S-H & have F-U-N, aboard the none other.....the JETTYWOLF.

11/12 - Jig heads for Inshore fishing; Hook sizes??

Irritated?  Yeah, I sure am when I see a jighead with a 7/0-8/0-9/0 hook, all fancy painted shaped like a fish head, sparkly eye's on it.......for a Trout, Redfish or a Flounder.

REALLY?

What the hell do ya need a hook that size for?

11/11 - A JETTYWOLF MOMENT; Fuel's down & Tide's up!

On Nov. 7th the tide was so absurdly HIGH....."I'm so glad I wear my Xtra-Tuffs (boots) as of Oct. 1st every single year. Because that's when the tide's are starting to get high with each passing Moon and NE wind.

.......and Fuel's down. BIG DEAL, They're just doing this to prime us for a good screwin' later on. I'm sure.  "It's always something!"

10/8-9 From SLOP city, to just a plain Good Time!

Well, Saturday was a complete soup sandwich at the Jetties. The morning high tide  had the jetties all churned up. I attempted to float-rig fish with Dan & his mom Sharon. But could could hardly keep the anchor stuck in the south jetty. Everyone was having problems with tripping anchors.

Plus, Dan & Sharon had no casting experience. So all we could do is just have the floats drift off the back of the boat, as the wind blew them out off the rocks rather than down the rocks. They had a few bites but mostly Mangrove Snapper "bite off's".

It was a day that I'd be pressing my skills into order. So with limited fishing skills, it was tough for them. And a dead calm morning with some good tide would be needed.

We all that re-anchoring I'd had enough. So we went up in the river. But dead high tide again was a real challenge. But we caught some small fish, and Dan caught a decent Speckled trout bottom fishing in 30 feet of water with a live shrimp.

I needed a falling tide and bad. And it seemed like forever before it did.

So we went back to the Jetties and bottom fished. Keeping it real simple. By now the inside of the jetties were much calmer. They had all kinds of Sheepshead bites, along with "still" all the bait stealers that are out there. But they couldn't connect. In between constant hook tying, because there was so "snag" right behind the boat........but the snag held Sheephead.

I caught, 2 back to back. The bite even on the falling tide with the Sheepshead was oh so light! Not the kind of bites ya wanna cut your teeth on when fishing the Jetties for the first time.

----------------------------------------------------

Sunday, I had the Furr family from California. 4 people, so we left out at 8am for a high tide at 10am.
Not great......loads of Stinger rays, Seabass, Pinnerfish, Pufferfish and basically alot of shrimp used to just catch those.

No big bites at all............again, needed a falling tide. But Kathy (mom) asked about just seeing some of the river. So we took a ride up river. I showed them the real estate and gave them the low down on the areas I fish.

Then came the falling tide, and it was bite after bite, fish after fish where I decided to give it another try. Good call on my part.

ACTION, yeah we had it, with Croakers, Yellowmouth Trout, Mangrove Snappers, Whiting and Sheepshead.

The action was so fast that all I did was walk circles around the boat taking fish off and handing out more shrimp for bait.

We just had a super fun day catching......yep, just catching! It would have been great to hook into a 30 pound Redbass. But, it just didn't happen today. But the cooler was full of fish when we came back and I cleaned up a few bags of fillets.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Supposedly, I was going to be out again on Monday morning. Trying my best to get Mitch, a local guy out to the jetties for none other than a day of "FLOAT-RG FISHING".  That's my plan.

This day is a reschedule from back in May when my Honda died and I had to go get the new Suzuki.
And now we're rescheduling again!!!!

I don't want to struggle to float-rig the jetties like I did on Saturday. Because I'd also like to make a video of it.

REMEMBER BACK IN JULY??
REMEMBER YOU ASKED "when is the inshore fish biting the best?"
REMEMBER ME TELLING YOU, "I love November..."

I've been in this business a long long time. and 99.99% of everyone on that hot summer vacation with the childrenz, are not coming back to do some real inshore sport fishing when it's at it's prime.
You have to be very "avid" to do so. Just not on vacation!!

So, get your foul weather gear together, a thermos full of coffee, and let's "REALLY GO CATCH SOME FISH!" Avid Anglers. Who know better.

Can't say you weren't informed.
Information & this "reports blog" is essentially the same thing.

11/6 - Those damn Sheeps....

Well, we certainly don't have electric let alone a fish cleaning table at any Jacksonville boat ramps. But, if I had my own fish camp. (Louisiana dreamin') If we caught those 7-striped jetty snappers here's what I'd do:

It can be done with just a fillet knife too. GO AROUND those damn blade ruining bones. And ditch the hacksaw!

11/5 - Elections

Well we're stuck with that azzhole Ander Crenshaw, again!!! (why people continue to elect career politicians, again and again. I don't know why.)

But, at least....we'll have this. Before the Navy takes all your shoreline away in Jax!

10/31 - "Pre-front + High-tide Charter" (Halloween)

http://www.captdaves.com - Daily reports blog for Jacksonville fishing. No old reports EVER!!!

"JETTYWOLF LIVE"-

Video Report: 10/31/2014

Well, I knew it going in, that the winds and the time of departure wouldn't make this Late Afternoon charter out to be all that successful.

But here's a tour at least!

(Via my 3 models ago... GoPro Hero 2 camera. Yes, a video response to all the Hero 4 Youtube video's coming soon.)

"2pm departure, with a 3:30pm big time High-tide?"
Not Good.

Hmmm......well the BIG REDFISH bite was Nil & Void.
And with Small Craft Advisories coming the next morning Nov. 1st, bringing 25 knot ++ winds. Yeah, I'd call this "pre-front" fishing!!!!

So, Halloween fishing 2014 wasn't like the whole week prior, thats for sure.

But my charter was pre-notified.
