5/9 - Jettywolf show-n-tell; Baker Gaff 'n' Scale

CAN'T WAIT TO NOT HAVE TO LEAN WAY OVER THE SIDE OF THE BOAT CONSTANTLY.

BAKER GAFF 'N' SCALE & BOGA-GRIP SHOW AND TELL.

Bull REDFISH? Where? - JETTYWOLF LIVE

Did that LOW pressure system really do this?
Two days of struggles when it sat off our coast....for sure.
Supposedly, heading to Outer Banks.
-------------------------------------------------

Tropical Storm Ana has formed off the southern Atlantic coast of the United States, making it the first named tropical system of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Ana was first classified as a subtropical, or hybrid storm, having some warm, tropical features and some cool, non-tropical features.
However, early Saturday morning, Ana strengthened and transitioned to a tropical storm.
Hurricane hunter aircraft began flights into the storm on Thursday morning. Ana, which formed late Thursday night, will affect part of the southeastern United States with rain, wind and rough surf through the Mother's Day weekend as it reaches the Carolina coast.

IT WAS DEAD OFF OUR COAST THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, AND I SUPPOSE IT EFFECTED THE FISH BITE, BECAUSE EVERYTHING WENT DEAD!

4/26 - Giant Spring Bull Redfish; aboard Jettywolf in Jacksonville FL.

http://www.captdaves.com - Jacksonville Florida

"JETTYWOLF LIVE" - Book your charter Today!

Today's crew used a Gift Certificate bought months earlier. And as it worked out. The Jettywolf is in the BIG REDFISH mode. So the crew went 2 for 3 giant bull Redfish that went 40-45 pounds, and then afterwards we went and jig fished on lighter tackle and got into schools of Ladyfish, just for the fun of it.

4/26 - Changing it up......

Yesterday was "hang up the float rig day", time to pursue the non-keepable. But then again, the pursuit of the more powerful.

Had Len Gieger and his father-in-law aboard the JETTYWOLF in the hard west winds today. Using cut ladyfish that were caught yesterday and kept chilled on ice for today. It's also another time of year called "FREE bait". I love that.....B&M bait & tackle probably doesn't? Oh well, I'll just buy more bags of pork cracklin's in the morning.

So we hit the river and weren't out there very long when, we hooked up.

Well, three hook ups and two actually made "into" the boat. each estimated at 40-45 pounds, because this time of year a 30 lb. Boga-Grip doesn't do any good. (always wanted a 60 pound Boga, I'll have to check Ebay!!)

Afterwards we went and pitched "slab spoons and shrimp" for 20 hooked up Ladyfish, maybe 5 got to the net, just for the fun of it.
At Whiteshell rocks and the North jetty before calling it a day of good fish catching.

VIDEO footage coming.....

Jus' a reminder....

JUS' A REMINDER .....THE NEXT TIME YOU BOOK A CHARTER WITHOUT KNOWING , LOOKING OR ASKING WHAT KIND OF BOAT YOU'LL BE GOING ON.

THAT LITTLE 17 FOOTER YOU SPENT THE DAY ON  WITH THE FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN A COMMERCIAL GRADE BOAT, WITH LOADS OF ROOM, SAFETY AND COMFORT.

4/25 - Last day of Float-rigging

Had Vic M. aboard the jettywolf today and the forecast was for rain, rain, rain and a south wind.
Well we saw neither.
The winds all morning were what seemed to me as DUE EAST!

Vic called me and said he loves Trout, eating Trout. And wanted to learn more about catching them.
I told him, "I can teach you all about Float-rig fishing, It catches Trout and everything else that eats LIVE Shrimp."

So today we headed out. I wasn't about to go through what I went through at the Jetties yesterday and plus in all reality there's no Trout there anyhow, barely has been this whole year!  So we headed up river and fished every single Trout spot I have in a area that I can just hop from spot to spot.

The wind was blowing straight up the stern of the boat as we laid on anchor, so No this wasn't a south wind at all.

We caught a few Trout here and there and many spots didn't even yield a bite. About 10 Trout, mostly small ones, a Flounder and a pup red, and several good sized Jacks and ladyfish is what the day consisted of. Basically, a average spring "where are the big Trout" day.  I can say that because I remember back when this time of year I'd be catching so many nice Trout in the same area, that it's only now a distant memory.

I always "squeek" Float-rig fishing out for as long as I can. Then comes a day when it's time to pack in the float-rig rods and do something else for the rest of the spring/summer.

Well, I think today was that day. Not that we didn't have fun, but I know Vic expected more. But I couldn't squeeze blood from a turnip, either.

Want great Trout fishing, go in the deep winter months. That's the best we have, or at least when I do my very best.

Now, it'll be "slab spoon jigging" for fun fish. Bottom fishing for any Studs such as over -sized Redbass, Sharks and the like.

Vic never caught a Jack before, and never caught a Ladyfish, either. So he got yanked on pretty good and decided he liked the fight of the smaller Trout better. Vic wasn't a youngster. I could see he liked the kick-back let the float drift kinda fishing. Just wish we had more Trout and bigger.

Next up...... Bottom fishing

4/24 - What the Moon & Wind can do for you.

No photos, No Video, just the written word for today.

So what can the Moon and the wind do for you??????

Screw you like you haven't been screwed in years, that's what!

Today we had NE winds on top of a tide so weak that there was no "Noticeable"  tide flow for up to 4 hours after the statistical tide change.

The tide has to move, right?  Well I'm sure it was, but hell if you could find a spot at the Mayport Jetties where there was some serious movement, add in the 15+ knot NE winds and that meant for the first 4 hrs of the day with Steve and son Chris, it was like we were being the brunt of a bad joke.

ZIP CODE CHANGE....as bad as I hate to leave my boats name sake and run for miles the other direction I did it, only to go to 2 spots that also had no tide. aka: water movement.

Spot number three, and finally I found water moving from more than just the wind....

I.G. - instantaneous Gratification

First float with live shrimp pitched by me behind the boat, and it went down. SPECKLED TROUT
15". And in the box it went!

For the next 2 hrs Steve and Chris caught a dozen Specks and only one Bluefish. Not monsters, but between the St. Johns River average; 14-16" boxing about 10 of them.

I hesitated to even use the words I.G. because prior to that float going down with a Trout, the whole morning was one 8" Flounder and two 20" Bonnethead Sharks. Over four hours prior.....!

I  can't imagine a place harder to fish in the state of Florida sometimes, than right here in my back yard. If there is one, I'd like to know about it. So I can avoid it like the Plague!

Heading out in the next hour for Saturday's instructional Float-rig fishing charter with Victor, and then Sunday Fun Day with Father and Son.

I'm prepared for.........What the Moon & Wind can do for ME.

4/18 - Jacksonville Fishing; I call this covering ground

WHERE WERE YOU?
IT WAS A GORGEOUS DAY IN THE MIDDLE OF APRIL AND NO ONE WANTED TO GO?

There's many times people do all they can to make it so difficult for me to even take you.

Let me count the ways.....

They call the morning of. That doesn't work out very often. People call the day before but seem to not want to commit, because I need your commitment "less than 24 hours notice?
1/2 up front deposit, mandatory."

Think I'm a party boat? Yep, no one ever goes to my website any more. They think ya just walk on with 18 people like I'm a bus, back home in Bakersville USA.  SORRY, I do (4) people and thats too many in my book......with ADVANCED DEPOSIT.

Or instead of having a bus load, will call with 5 people. Uneven numbers don't cut it in Life, and are one OVER because I carry a fishing license to cover 4 persons only!

Please folks. Do some investigation, ask a few questions. And reserving is easy in all reality.

Sometimes I feel as if I had a 30 ft. Bass Pro shops party barge, I could do more trips. Load them all up, drop anchor, dead shrimp for everyone...... and call it fishing.

BUT I'M NOT A INSHORE PARTY BOAT. And plan on staying that way.

4/6 - BAIT REPORT:

4/6/2015 - BAIT R-E-P-O-R-T

ICW south of St. Johns River today. 1st Jack caught and wasn't a 6 incher, but rather a 3 pounder!
2nd time in a few years we've caught the 1st Jack of the year in the same spot in the ICW.

(note: other years were more like MARCH 6th, rather than APRIL 6th..........LATE???)

Of course the bonnetheads are at the jetties and Nassau Sound, also.

BAIT:  MULLET SCHOOLS all over the banks getting busted by hungry schools of Jacks. I'm talking massive schools. Not seen like this in a long time. Perfect 3 inch Mullet.
BUT never seen them till LOW tide. Also seen schools of bait already in Mill Cove!
Guess the Spanish & Ladies, are next up. Haven't seen the Spanish yet. Last two few days has been heinous EAST winds so I have not been to the jetties.
I suppose the Mullet and Jacks took the "inland route" coming north. Into the ICW, because I never saw a single Mullet at the jetties.

SHARPEN YER' HOOKS FOLKS!

4/3 - Easter weekend

Let the zoo begin!

Right about now is when all the fair weather boaters and fisherman come out of the drift wood.
Boats I have never ever seen before at the ramp in the morning, ghetto cruisers waking the river banks. Yep. These people are the ones we don't see all winter long.

When I leave the dock on a cold late January morning with two die-hards from Michigan. You won't ever see these people. And the funny thing is, "It's Florida", not Chicago IL. It's never that bad if you know how to dress. The fisherman in Chicago look out at a giant lake full of ice.

But, I'm so glad there's fair weather sissy fisherman. Because I don't want to see them. That's why I call Dec. Jan. Feb. and even parts of March, "Dave's Time".

Well, I'm here to tell ya, Dave's Time is O-V-E-R!

The proof started, T-O-D-A-Y.

3/31 - Capt Dave "Angler & Shoe Model"

This is a offer by Rugged Shark footwear, via the Youtube Network I belong to.

4/2 - DAIWA TATULA - HD200HS, Saltwater Worthy?

Promised a "show & tell" and here it is.

If you are a inshore saltwater baitcasting aficionado. You'll appreciate what I'm talking about in this video.

Jigging, Jig fishing is a huge part of inshore light tackle river & inlet fishing. NOTHING does it better than a rod and reel combo super tuned for where you fish.
