9/24 - Jacksonville's JETTY Fishing, "a Jettywolf Moment"

9/26 - FINALLY

Finally tried these.....''the best ever way to really cut braided line''
BEING THAT ON A NORMAL CHARTER DAY, I PROBABLY ''RE-RIG'' LINES NO LESS THAN 25 TIMES. I HAVE FOUND THAT NO CUTTERS, NO SCISSORS, NO BLADE OF ANY TYPE WILL HOLD UP TO CUTTING BRAIDED LINE. THEY RUST, THEY DULL, AND ALTHOUGH THEY STILL MIGHT CUT TO SOME DEGREE......THEY CERTAINLY DO NOT CAUTERIZE THE END OF THE BRAIDED LINE.
FOR LESS THAN A SUPER GREAT PAIR OF SO CALLED BRAID CUTTERS, I BOUGHT (3) BERKLEY HOT LINE CUTTERS!!           ON EBAY

FISHING FULL MOONS, NOREASTERS, AND REEL SALE

WELL, HEADING TO THE CREEKS ON TUESDAY ABOARD A BUDDIES BOAT. A BOAT THAT'S EZ TO GET MULLET FROM. SO THATS OUR PLAN.

HAD SERIOUS ANKLE PROBLEM FOR A WHOLE WEEK. THE PAIN WAS DREADFUL, WHEN YOU'RE ON YOUR FEET FOR 12 HRS. STRAIGHT!

THE FULL MOON WAS A REAL PAIN, AND MY LAST DAY OUT IT WAS BLOWING LIKE HELL FROM THE EAST-NORTHEAST ALL DAY. ADD-IN THE FULL MOON TIDES, AND THE LACK OF BIG FISH BITES, (LOTS OF SMALL FISH) PLUS MY ANKLE, AND YEAH, A DESK JOB IS A PIECE OF CAKE!!

SO NOTHING TO REPORT ABOUT THE LAST FEW DAYS.  SEPT. IS ALWAYS WISHY-WASHY ANYHOW WHEN IT COMES TO THE WEATHER. SO FAR, 2 TROPICAL STORMS HAVE COME UPON US, LEAVING NOT ENOUGH RAIN. WE NEED A WASH OUT, TO START THE FALL SEASON, AKA: "OCTOBER".

MORE CLEAN-OUT OF NON-USING TACKLE. MEANING I'M NOT USING IT, SO IT HAS TO GO.

9/7 - So looking forward to days like this...

DON'T FOR A SECOND THINK THAT SUMMER IS GO TIME FOR INSHORE LIGHT TACKLE FISHING IN N.E. FLORIDA.

OH, IT'S GO TIME FOR YOU VACATIONERS.

BUT IF YOU ARE A AVID SPORTSMAN, OUTDOORSMAN, ANGLER. (LIKE MY REGULAR DALE IS, HE'S BEEN FISHING WITH ME FOR YEARS!)

THESE COLD MORNINGS, THE WINDY DAYS, THE FROZEN FINGERS....ARE QUICKLY FORGOTTEN AFTERWARDS WHEN A WONDERFUL FISH FRY AND A COOL BEVERAGE IS BEING ENJOYED.

I'VE BEEN DOING THIS LONG ENOUGH (21 YEARS) TO REALIZE THERE'S COMPLETE SECTORS IN MY CHARTER FISHING THROUGH OUT THE YEAR.

NO LITTLE KIDS, MOSTLY JUST 2 PERSONS, BECAUSE THATS THE BEST TRIPS.

AND PUTTING TROPHIES ON THE LINE IS WHAT THIS TIME OF YEAR IN THIS VIDEO, IS ALL ABOUT.

9/7 - THOSE EBAY CHINESE REELS

9/5 - Labor Day

Windy to say the least.....DUE EAST. 15-20 is what it felt like.

Had huge plans. Get a bunch of live Mullet and fish far from the "hub" of activity, by heading up river at 7am, with Redfish in mind. Not Jumbos, but any ole size.

Looked at about 3 different "mullet capture" areas, and of course because of the wind, spot number 3 adjacent where we were going to fish is the one that had plenty passing by.

-anyone else would have FREAKED!
While on the Mullet castnetting spot, the wind swung the boat around on anchor and the bottom of the boat, was grinding on oysters and rocks......But of course I don't care, it's not like all that is doing any damage, to my NON-FANCY Gelcoated boat ( Laughing while thinking about those 90K bayboats, that aren't bay boats at all really.) But we eventually got out of there. Then, to find out before I could catch my first perfect finger Mullet, my live well pump...... wasn't working.

-the "double fix".
Some how while I was researching & repairing a side console Nav. light and checking the switch panel. I must have had a wire pull off. Now the pump switch won't work. Pretty much needed to keep a live well full of Mullet. A simple fix when I got home took care of all that. Hence, the "double fix".

-What always catches?
So we just fished cut dead Pogies, and the ole stand by of all time. FRESH Jumbo dead shrimp.
(DON'T LEAVE HOME WITH OUT IT!)  I even tried GULP.  We caught Ladyfish, Croakers, Mangrove Snapper, and a 28" Redfish. ON DEAD SHRIMP.

If anyone ever asked me, "Dave what's your favorite bait?" I certainly wouldn't answer; "A red bellied slash and splash diver with copper spinners." Like some Bass fisherman, or even like some  local Redfish tournament dude, would probably answer.

My answer would simply be; Fresh Jumbo dead shrimp and live shrimp. Dead for bottom fishing. Live, for Float-rig fishing and jig-n-shrimp casting. IT CATCHES IT ALL, when others baits fail!!

The cut frozen Pogies we used, were getting devoured instantly off the hook by bait thieves. The Gulp got bites but not many takers. But the shrimp caught 99% of the fish today....and of course the only Redfish!!

The rising tide up river never really gained much strength, which I needed for super success on the spot we fished, plus we really needed those "live" Mullet too.

So we slowly rode back to the "Hub"....and upon arrival we saw 9 boats all on one spot. It's so funny, how boats attract boats, fish don't.

That wasn't for me, so we tried the other side of the river, where we had Catfish, Croakers, and yep, even the "green scourge fish" aka: Bluefish, eat our dead cut Pogies.  As we tried for a big Bull Redbass on the flooding tide, fishing about 30 feet on the channel edge.

No big bite ever materialized, we had enough fun for one Labor day. So we headed home.

And as usual, that big STORM (laugh) from just this past Friday didn't do anything to the river, as I hoped it would.

We didn't get enough rain!!

9/4 - "Take your Gal fishing": Fall Bull Redfish

I think this is my favorite Bull Redfish video  (back in Oct. of 2014).......just because of my crew.

Leave your beer drinking buddies at home, and bring your wife, Daughter, Mother or Grandma, because the Gal's make the day. Especially if they are a great sport like Mrs. Traut from Iowa, was.
She was so funny.

9/1 - September is a "fall" month, right?

Bye, Bye, AUGUST. (considered a Summer month)

Well the Tropical Storm has done ZERO, here so far.

Could have fished today even. It was S-L-I-C-K calm on the river and I.C.W.
today as I went over the Bridge from my house to the Trailer Tire Shop in Mayport.

LET'S GO.....

This storm thing will be such a memory by Monday. That means time to F-I-S-H, a Fall Month called

SEPTEMBER.

Last year on Sept. 5th at Jetties:  Reds, Sharks, Flounder, and....faux sheepshead?

8/31 - Been a long time......

Yep, I usually don't go thru this "loosing", till at least October.

But so far, I've re-scheduled two charters already because of this (at this time) no name storm in the Gulf. It's costed me over a GRAND already!!!!!

It's been a long time since I've had so many days kicked out, because of weather.

GUESS SUMMER IS OFFICIALLY OVER FOLKS!

Which can be a good thing, because fishing is so much better from here on out and even if there is storms. Because we need them.

To turn over the water, give us much needed rain, that eventually find it's way into the St. Johns River, make the Trout go nuts (fingers crossed) and the bull Reds hopefully get pushed out into the Ocean at the Jetties and make them so much more pleasant to fish for versus sitting in that screaming tide inside the river.

-can ya just imagine how relieved Louisiana is?

I even love it when the Croakers are knee deep at the Jetties. They are so fun to catch on a vertically jigged micro jig.

In just the past two days.....
I've changed the bow roller on the boat trailer
changed out the trailer winch
fixed and ordered new Nav. side lights
and had a trailer tire fixed

....and SOLD 3 reels, and sent a reel back to the distributor for replacement because it was brand new. and was faulty.

I always have plenty to do, even when I'm not physically fishing. Just keeping everything, Ship-Shape!

8/27 - Wind-Rain....it's the season folks.

First trip today was a 2 hr. Kids Trip, with Dad and two little shavers (maybe 4 & 5 years old). At 7am we pulled away and went to White Shell and caught a Puffer, Catfish, and Pinfish. Tide was slack. That was the problem, there.

At 9:30, I had Brian and John coming aboard, for a mid-morning till afternoon trip.

SUN-UP AT DOCK

HERE IT COMES!

THE WEAPONRY:  New TRUTH S.S. Reels  /  30# braid

I anchored up, rigged the first bait, and here it came behind us....like a wall.  B-I-G rain!
I asked Brian and John, "wanna sit thru it, or run for cover?"
We ran for cover, which wasn't much cover at all. The "old" Sisters Creek bridge.
And soon there was 10 of us attempting to hide under it. As the current and winds pushed, making it very difficult to grab a dry spot. "We got soaked!"

The rain passed, the sun popped out, so we headed back to the fishing spot.
"What a way to start the day!"

The wind Blew. ENE, and will blow till at least Thursday because of a "Tropical" item in the Caribbean.  Which is kinda good. I like it when summer slacks and the transition starts, and it usually happens with storms.

(I just don't want any storms to target Louisiana, this year)

Bull Redbass. While the tide ran right.  24 pounds.

A Redbass, which was coaxed by my obvious jigging the bottom, when it slammed
the piece of cut Pogie in 43' of water.  19 lbs.

We had a Bonnethead Shark after the tide turned and a few nibblers. But that last of the falling tide was the ticket for us.

We left at 3pm, Brian had a plane to catch to get home, and John had a several hr. ride back to Savannah, Ga.

8/22 - "IN THE END"

Been "Sharkin" as I have been....because the Jetties are DEAD.  How do I know that??

Because every time I try fishin them (for other species besides Sharks) It's a tad futile, despite the very occasional Jack, Bonnethead, or small pupper Black Drum.

The "BIG BAD RB's" should start to fire off by the middle of next month. "I HOPE".

Sooo, Tourist season is officially over.

I CAN TELL

Reminds me of:   RUSH- In the End   hahahahaha

The end of a good thing!

8/11 - GLOBAL FISHING

In today's world, if you can't find it in your state, you look elsewhere. If you can't find it in your Country, you can easily look elsewhere to outside the USA.

That's just what I did.

I saw this video on Youtube:

Then I saw this video:

Of course for simple Trout fishing I have my Yeti Hopper 40qt.  But what happens when we catch a big Black Drum, or several "keeper sized" Redbass (yeah like that happens all the time) I'll need a larger fish bag!

"But Dave, dontcha have a dang big Cooler"

"Yes, I do. And I'm not using them. I want maximum room, deck space (the reason I had my boat built, because it has more room than any similar boat around here!) and want to stow away my fish storage!

So after a discussion via Facebook with the seller of these flat bottom insulated fish bags, I ordered on off his website.

www.bluebottlefishing.com

39.3701 inches Long x 15.748 inches Tall x 15.748 inch Bottom Base

The Blue Bottle Fishing website is set up to display US dollars, and you can easily use PayPal.

Why did I purchase one of these particular bags?  The right size, sits flat, has a good drain plug, and stows easily.

Sooo.....when I get it, there's sure to be a Video coming. It has to come all the way from Australia. But that shouldn't take that long.

Even with shipping, the Mini sized fish bag was competitively priced.
