1/29 - whatz up in Winter???

http://www.captdaves.com- ALL CHARTER INFO LOCATED ON MY WEBSITE.

"JETTYWOLF LIVE" - SOME WINTER SHEEPSHEAD FISHING ABOARD THE JETTYWOLF WITH CAPT DAVE, OUT OF JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA. FISHING THE MAYPORT AREA. SHEEPSHEAD TO 8 POUNDS AND A RARE KEEPER SIZE REDFISH - (Red Drum).

SHEEPSHEAD ARE A POPULAR WINTER SPECIES. TABLE FARE IS GOOD, RATIO OF FILLET PER SIZE OF FISH IS TERRIBLE, AND SO IS THE CLEANING PROCESS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE A SPECKLED TROUT ANGLER. (Like me!)

NEWBIES / ROOKIES TO SHEEPSHEAD FISHING MAY THINK IT'S AS EASY AS CATCHING OTHER SPECIES OF INSHORE FISH, BUT IT'S NOT. YOU BETTER HAVE SOME ANGLING SAVVY AND BE ABLE TO FEEL THE SLIGHTEST BITE.

FIDDLER CRABS, LIVE SHRIMP, CHUNKED BLUE CRABS AROUND STRUCTURE IS THE BEST BAITS AND AREAS, AND ALL ARE READILY AVAILABLE IN THE JACKSONVILLE AREA.

1/24 - What's inside that Racor Filter...Any Magic?

http://www.captdaves.com - Mon.-Tuesday 2 person charter Special. Check it out on my website. (advanced reservations required)

"JETTYWOLF LIVE"

Capt Dave was changing out his Racor Filter and wondered, what is in this thing that "separates" the Fuel and Water? Is there some Magic going on?

Come to find out, his well used Racor Filter used before his Suzuki 250 HP Outboard motor was soggy wet inside, and he saw no magic.

In today's world and the gas that's not really "gasoline" as we know it, anymore. The decision was made to start changing these filters out every six months. Believing a year is way too long. Even though his boat doesn't sit much, and new fuel is added to to the tank weekly.

This was part of the maintenance he's doing, a complete "Top to Bottom" go over, while things are slow during the winter ,months.

Next up? Leaning post Upholstery.

1/20 - A GREAT $35 INSHORE REEL

http://www.captdaves.com - Book your charter Today!

"JETTYWOLF LIVE" - I really like the Shakespeare ATS-15, small High Speed, Graphite, auto-engaging $35 reels for general inshore fishing for my charter boat.
These reels are not new, they've just been "RE-INTRODUCED:. Before they were called the ARSENAL "ARG-15"......so when they re-named them, ATS, I called it: "Arsenal-Try-Secondary", because Shakespeare being the lower end of the PURE FISHING mega Company tackle conglomerate, can't really find it's way in the fishing reel world it seems to me. Ugly Stik rods is the only thing they've ever had going for them.

But these reels fill a niche. They are almost like a Abu Garcia Ambassador size wise, do about all the same thing, and DON'T COST $150!! Like Some Ambassadors have become.

They don't corrode up in saltwater. They are 2-bearing reels. They have a non-disengaging levelwind, they are 5.1:1 gear ratio (which is fast for a reel like this), they have a good drag as long as you "Grease" the drag washers. And for my customers, they just plain WORK" on my charter boat, without taking me to the bank, matched to a Shakespeare Ugly Stik 7' med. Light Action Striper rod.

I love a "combo" I can put together have 6-8 of them, and they just plain work, and I end up liking them way better than many High Dollar reels I have, because of the "work horse" nature of the reels and rods.

JANUARY 17th already!

GUESS WE'RE REALLY NOT GOING TO HAVE A WINTER THIS YEAR.

-PEOPLE ARE SWIMMING
-PEOPLE ARE GOING SHIRTLESS ON THE WATER (not the right people)
-TANK TOPS ARE THE FASHION AT THE JETTIES THIS JANUARY
-I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE CONCERNED OR COMPLAINING

-IF YOUR FREEZING WHERE EVER YOU LIVE, YOU NEED TO GET DOWN HERE, NOW!

PROBLEM IS;

COLD, OVERCAST, BLOWING, GRUNDENS FOUL WEATHER SLICKERS ON IS REAL SPECKLED TROUT FISHING WEATHER. FOR ME ON MY BOAT, IT IS.

I CAN EASILY TRACK THE GREAT DAYS OF TROUT FISHING.....it's EZ, all I have to do is look at my own video's!

I'VE RELENTED.
FIDDLER CRABS, STRUCTURE, JETTIES, "HOPE YA'LL CAN FEEL THE BITE"
IS WHAT I HAVE EVEN TURNED TOO.

YES, SHEEPSHEAD FISHING. MIXED IN WITH PLAIN OLE BOTTOM FISHING.

👀 HERE'S LOOKING AT MAYBE THE SPRING BITE, OF GATOR SPECKS?

OR MAYBE ALL THE WAY TO THE WINTER OF 2017/2018, FOR GATOR SPECKLED TROUT?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

OH HOW I LOVED THIS:

IT WAS C-O-L-D!!!!

1/15 - Jr. Angler steals the show

OUR BIG FISH FROM TODAY.

NO FIDDLER CRABS AT THE BAIT SHOP, THIS MORNING.

SO THAT KYBOSHED MY PLANS TO SHEEPSHEAD FISH TODAY.

MAYBE THATS A GOOD THING SINCE THE BITE, ISN'T SOMETHING

YOU CAN "PICK UP" IN JUST A FEW HOURS, UNLESS YOU'RE PRETTY SKILLED.

(I'VE SEEN IT HAPPEN, SO I KNOW)

1/12 - GARMIN ECHOMAP 94SV

"JETTYWOLF LIVE" - You'd about have to follow along from the beginning

Part 1 of my "Sounder Saga" - Raymarine Dragonfly 7 Pro... BEWARE, NOT GOOD   https://youtu.be/PjFxFBzXN6Q

Coming off 10 year old Raymarine C-120 & C70 MFD units with the whole she-bang, exterior GPS antenna, Raymarine DSM 300 ""black box"" under the console........

Then I brain farted!!

And thought, "Maybe the compact Raymarine DragonFly Pro 7 would be my next unit?"  So I bought one and was convinced now after installing it, why it's so popular with the Kayak crowd, or small boater.........It didn't come close to my expectations on a 26' commercial boat!!

So, I then went and bought a GARMIN ECHOMAP  94SV,  and installed it. Pretty Much all this happened in the same week!

Now I'm happy. The Garmin has everything I'd ever want. And I'm 100% pleased with this upgrade.

That's what this video is about.

1/7 - not good!!

last charter I joined the winter time club....the Sheepsherder Club.
I let the float-rigs and live shrimp on land and took fresh dead shrimp and a folgers can of "fiddler crabs".

Here's the out come;

Thats it....2 fish. (A Black Drum and one Sheepshead)

I had these bites set the hook and gave the rod to my guys and they reeled them in.
Did they ever feel their own bites? Once, maybe twice....
Yep, the day was less frustrating for me, thats for sure. No running all over trying to find trout over 14 inches, and a spot with no mangrove snappers infested on it.

We stayed at the jetties all day long.

I have to say, sitting on my coolers leaned back relaxing is a sure way of not catching a Sheepshead, unless your name is Capt. Fred Morrow.

You have to activly fish. Stand up and watch your rod tip.

So if you want to Sheepshead fish. Ya need to get with the plan.

1/2 - too damn warm!!!!!!!!!

really love cold actual winter days...why?

- less people around

- more trout bites

- no jet ski's

- no ladyfish or mini jacks

- no bugs!

Wednesday, December 28, 2016

12/27 - the Jetties were a complete "BORE"....

Left the Jetties because it was soooo "boring".  No Float-rig bites, no bottom bites. ( I wasn't waiting till low tide)

Traversed the river slowly in the deep FOG. Hitting a lot of good Trout spots for really slow action.
But managed a handful up to approx. 22 inches.

Here's a nice 19 incher:

The rest of the Trout ended up being fried up for dinner at Singleton's Seafood Shack.

(Yes, you can eat your catch while the fillets are still twitchin' after each day with Capt Dave. Just hurry.....hahahahaha)

12/22 - MAKE THAT REEL, FUN AGAIN

http://www.captdaves.com - Book your charter Today!

"JETTYWOLF , RODS & REELS ONLY: discussions and reviews "

The ole Shimano Triton 100G is a great reel. Durable, Non corrosive, Powerful drag, Holds loads of line.....Basically the Timex type reel of my charter fishing arsenal.

But when it comes to the whimpy handle. It just doesn't cut it. So I replace them. With a Shimano Calcutta 400 Power Handle!

The reel immediately goes from Boring to Jazzy and ready for action!

This can be done with about any bait casting or conventional reel today. Handle replacement is so EZ to do. Just get the power handle that fits, and in 3 minutes. You're done!

To find this reel handle on Shimano's website go to REEL SUPPORT, and scroll down to parts, select "round reels", then click on Calcutta B, then look up the Calcutta 700 and the Power handle part # is 3444 at $24.66 or look up the Calcutta 400BSV and the Power Handle part # is 3369. at $22.00.......the ones used in this video are of course the cheaper at $22 #3369. I believe I've also used the #3444 before and they fit too.

On Ebay search "Shimano Calcutta power handle #3444"
The cheapest seller has just (6) left as of Today: 12/22/16
at $28.99 free shipping.

With Little time, you can find original equipment Power Handles on Ebay, for Daiwa's, Abu Garcia's, Penn, and many others from sellers in Korea and Japan. JUST MAKE SURE YOUR REEL IS LISTED AS ON THAT'LL FIT THE HANDLES. If you have time to wait, those Korean and Japanese sellers are 1/2 price or less of what a Daiwa Power handle sells for in the USA. (I'm waiting on two from Korea, right now for my Daiwa Ryoga reels.)

12/17 - It wasn't us!!

Left out early on Saturday morning with two guys and the only fish we could catch was along the,
""US Navy Fish Preservation Zone"" .   The tide was rising and we tried everything. Even sitting anchored along the south jetty on the outside in 4-6 foot FOLDING seas, running float-rigs down the rocks.

Then, we bottom fished, ZERO. Everyone out there was sitting inside the rocks close to Huguenot Park, doing zero, just like we were.

I stopped along the ""US Navy Fish Preservation Zone"" as we left the dock back at 7am. And we caught a few small Trout. So after the whole jetty "go-round" of techniques and different spots, we left and stopped back in there.  More Trout, a Flounder and a Sheepshead. Then, here comes the Blue Lights flashing and siren chirping at us.

I guess they just don't get it. YES, THE CAT AND MOUSE GAME WILL CONTINUE! Our rights as U.S. Citizens are being violated as far as I'm concerned. I will fish those sacred spots I've fished for 30 years, and will continue. When they chase me out......"don't worry. I will be back!"

Hell, it was the ONLY area all morning where we caught fish!!!

So, incoming tide, 10am and the MOON is still in the sky, the full Moon was 4 days prior and it's still kicking our asses, I go ahead and move on into the river and ICW.

More small Trout, and now the BLUEFISH are everywhere!  Eventually, we box a handful of barely 15 inchers.

Making more moves.....I go to a spot that is religiously a dead low-tide only spot in complete desperation, and the tides max high. And just starting to ebb.

Mangrove Snappers, 4 inchers, worse than Bluefish could ever be eating those high dollar live shrimp!  With NO Trout.

Then as my guys fished hard Pat sets the hook.....and brings in a huge Trout. A fat 23 incher at 4 pounds.

That was about it. The tiny Mangrove Snappers ate up everything after the Big Trout so we packed it in.

Back at the dock I cleaned I think 5 Trout a Flounder and one Sheepshead.  It was so nice of a day in the river, got really too warm, and for some reason the only fish we could catch near the inlet was along the, ""US Navy Fish Preservation Zone"".  The jetties were so off it was incredible.

12/12 - FULL MOON

Didn't even leave the dock till 9am, today.  Took in consideration that being the day before the full moon, and wanting to fish the last of the falling tide, that even 9am today was ""early"", seeing that dead low with slow current may not be till 2-3pm, with a noon low tide.

I was DEAD correct!

Started the morning with two bull Redfish in the mid 20 pound range....23, 24 pounds.
The bite was slow on the falling tide today compared to my last few trips for them.

Experimenting taking photo's which I hardly do ever, with my new GoPro Hero 5 camera(s)..
So, I wasn't being a shutter-bug by no means. I could have though.....

We stayed at the Jetty rocks all day basically and had way over 20 Speckled Trout, only one Sheepshead, several Bluefish, and assorted other "jetty dwellers". To include Whiting that went into the fish box.  Getting only 6-7 "keeper-size" Speckled Trout. The Trout just weren't running that large.

But it was enough for a healthy fish fry for my crew, with the Sheepshead and Whiting thrown in.

After the two Bull Reds in the morning, that went in the low 20's.....23-25 pounds I believe, we went and cast "Jetty jigs & Shrimp" the rest of the day. Working around that difficult full moon tide. But, it was nice to be out there on a Monday, with NO ONE around.

The morning sky was iffy looking with fog on the river. But by the afternoon it heated up and became too warm for my liking.

It's supposed to be COLD. Or may not "supposed to be". But at least that's the way I like it. 😉😉

12/4 - it's DECEMBER, dammit!!!!

in my house right now (8:25pm Sunday night) it's 76 degrees and I had to turn on the huge exhaust fan and open every window that works. Because it was almost 80 after being at my parents house for Sunday Dinner, and the house was all shut up closed.

Where is W-I-N-T-E-R?

I sit here shirtless in shorts and its now, because of the fan sucking outside air inside, getting cooler.

It's December dammit!

Oh I here all the crap from people...."I love the hot weather". Really? From the air conditioned building you work in 8 hrs a day?

I'm here to tell ya, I love it when there's a good chill. Because, I know it won't be long and I'll be fishing in the hot weather, hearing people complain "who came here on purpose". That it's so hot, while fishing.

Interim Assistance General Manager,
(Operations, Maintenance, Transportation)
Harrisburg International Airport Pennsylvania
One Terminal Drive, Middletown,
PA 17057, Pennsylvania USA

Greetings,

This is my second time of sending you this message, I have very vital information for you, but first I hope i will have your trust by revealing this information to you because it may cause me my job, so I need to trust you by revealing this to you.

I am Mr. Butler Saunders, head of luggage/baggage storage facilities (Operations, Maintenance, and Transportation) here at the Harrisburg International Airport, Pennsylvania USA. During my recent withheld package routine check at the Airport Storage Vault, I discovered an abandoned shipment from a Diplomat from London and when scanned it revealed an undisclosed sum of money in a Metal Trunk Box weighing approximately 110kg. The consignment was abandoned because the Contents of the consignment was not properly declared by the consignee as "MONEY" rather it was declared as personal effect to avoid interrogation and also the inability of the diplomat to pay for the United States Non Inspection Charges which is $6,700USD. On my assumption the consignment is still left in our Storage House here at the Harrisburg International Airport Pennsylvania till date. The details of the consignment including your name, your email address and the official documents from the United Nations office in Geneva are tagged on the Trunk box.

However, to enable me confirm if you are the actual recipient of this consignment as the assistant director of the Inspection Unit, I will advise you provide your current Phone Number and Full Address, to enable me cross check if it corresponds with the address on the official documents including the name of nearest Airport around your city. Please note that this consignment is supposed to have been returned to the United States Treasury Department as unclaimed delivery due to the delays in concluding the clearance processes so as a result of this, I will not be able to receive your details on my official email account. So in order words to enable me cross check your details, I will advise you send the required details to my private email address for quick processing and response. Once I confirm you as the actual recipient of the trunk box, I can get everything concluded within 48hours upon your acceptance and proceed to your address for delivery.

Lastly, be informed that the reason I have taken it upon myself to contact you personally about this abandoned consignment is because I want us to transact this business and share the money 70% for you and 30% for me since the consignment has not yet been returned to the United States Treasury Department after being abandoned by the diplomat so immediately the confirmation is made, I will go ahead and pay for the United States Non Inspection Fee of $6,700 dollars and arrange for the box to be delivered to your doorstep Or I can bring it by myself to avoid any more trouble but you have to assure me of my 30% share.

I wait to hear from you urgently if you are still alive and I will appreciate if we can keep this deal confidential. Please get back to me via my private Email: (butlersaunders@inbox.lv) for further directives

Thank you.

It's Dec. Already??

Holy smokes......pretty soon it's going to be 100 degrees again. Nothing inshore will be biting, because the water temps will be 88 again.

Gawd how I "don't" like summer!  Especially July, August, and Sept.  U-H-G!

Now, is the time I year I love.  No heat, No A/C, windows open and, No Kingfish tournaments!

And it'll soon be all over, with just a bat of an eye.

In my fishing life. Days & Months just fly by. But the Summer heat just drags... on and on.

Got off my charter yesterday and jumped out of the truck at home. Felt great. Took my time cleaning the boat up and putting everything away.

Wasn't sweating. Had plenty of energy. Shirt was dry, and even my "under drawers" were dry, go figure?

Oh, how I love this time of year!

PLUS...."they are still out there."

Get some current and kick back, and just pull on BIG REDS.  ðŸ˜ŽðŸ˜Ž

The search for Trout sucked.

Only getting a few Sheepshead, a few small Flounder & Black Drum... and one 14" Trout.

It rained just enough in the morning to wet everything, including two guys who showed up with zero rain gear?

😕😕  (C'mon people. Get with it. Attempt to be a Boy Scout, at least.)

And the chill had me in comfortably in my Orange slicker suit all day, and NEVER broke a sweat. (They are known to be hot any other time of year)

Here's a few I took pics of. Sorry no Video today.
