WHICH MEANS, OCTOBER IS FINALLY HERE.....HURRAY!!
I CALL IT "DAVE TIME". (BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME TOO, IF YOU'RE A FANATICAL INSHORE SPORT FISHERMAN)

WHY DOES WINDS TO 25 KNOTS, AND IT BEING OCTOBER, EXCITE ME. YOU ASK?

BECAUSE I'M JUST PLAIN TIRED OF HOT 85 DEGREE WATER, SUMMER CONDITIONS. AND I'M READY FOR EVERYTHING FROM BIG WHITING, BLACK DRUM, BULL REDFISH, EASIER SPECKLED TROUT FISHING, SHEEPSHEAD, AND FLOUNDER. AND I LOVE THE EASE OF CATCHING ALL THE MULLET FOR BAIT, ANYONE WOULD EVER NEED WITH THE FALL MULLET RUN, IN FULL BORE.

AND SIMPLE WEATHER CHANGES CAN BRING ON LOWER WATER TEMPS AND EASE US INTO FALL LIKE WEATHER. (I'M NOT A METEOROLOGIST, OR PLAY ONE ON TV, JUST A DIE HARD WEATHER OBSERVER)

IT'S A TRANSITIONAL TIME, AND EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THAT. UNLESS, YOU'RE NEW TO N.E. FLORIDA.

LATELY, MY FAVORITE "DRUM", THE BLACK DRUM. HAVE BEEN DOING PRETTY GOOD AT THE MAYPORT JETTIES. GET A FEW LIKE THIS IN THE BOX AND YOU'LL SOON FORGET ABOUT ALL THOSE NON-KEEPER REDFISH OUT THERE, AT THE INLET.

K.I.S.S. FISHING, WITH DEAD SHRIMP IN SOME KEY PLACES ALONG THE ROCKS AT THE RIGHT TIDE CAN YIELD A BOX OF NICE BLACK DRUM LIKE THIS THROUGH THE REST OF THE FALL, STRAIGHT INTO THE DEEPER WINTER MONTHS.

SIMPLY STATED, "IT'S GO TIME" FOR ALL INSHORE ANGLERS!

did some ''inshore party boat fishing with 4'' on Saturday. (that's what I call it, when I have a maxed out boat.) I keep it simple with 4 people.

had a great day, despite not feeling all that great. sure felt good to be in my office.

they caught a LOT of Croakers and Whiting.....then we got actual ''''targeted species'''' .....Black Drum, and one big one!
using what else??  fresh dead shrimp.

Picked up some bull Reds too, on live finger Mullet (photo of just one)  16-20 pounds.

NORMALLY, AT THIS TIME, I'D BE FLOAT-RIG - 'LIGHT TACKLE' FISHING. (WITH ONLY 2-MAYBE 3 PASSENGERS ABOARD (MANAGEABLE)  BUT, NOT WITH THE WATER TEMPS SO HIGH STILL.  SPECKLED SEA TROUT, REDFISH, SHEEPSHEAD, AND MORE ON THE FLOATS WITH LIVE SHRIMP.  IT'S MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE WAY OF FISHING, BECAUSE IT'S ALL ''VISUAL'', AND ON LIGHT TACKLE!

OCT. 1 - THIS PAST WEEKEND, THE WORST EXPERIENCE!

IT'S NOT OVER YET.

THURSDAY, 2ND PROSTATE BIOPSY. MY DAD HAD PROSTATE CANCER, I GRANDPA HAD IT TOO, SO AT 55, I'M ON ''HIGH ALERT''. 2008 WAS THE 1ST BIOPSY, NOTHING FOUND.

BY FRIDAY AT 6PM I HAD A MONSTER HEADACHE, BY 10PM I HAD A FEVER. EVERY MUSCLE IN MY BODY ACHED, NEVER SLEPT BUT A FEW MINUTES AT A TIME.

BY SATURDAY MORNING FULL BLOWN FEVER, NO SLEEP, COULDN'T WALK STRAIGHT. 

BY SUNDAY, CALLED THE V.A. EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER, ANSWERED A BUNCH OF QUESTIONS, AND THE NURSE SAID, YOU NEED TO GET TO THE VA HOSPITAL IN GAINESVILLE (2 PLUS HRS AWAY) WITH IN 2-6 HRS. I SAID OKAY. THEN, THOUGHT HOW CAN I DRIVE FOR 2 HOURS? CALLED BACK AND SAID I'M GOING TO A HOSPITAL 10 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE, INSTEAD!

WAS IN  ST. VINCENTS HOSPITAL FROM NOON TILL 6:30PM.  THEY FED ME INTRAVENOUSLY ALL KINDS OF PAIN MEDS AND OTHER STUFF.
FEVER WAS BREAKING WE THOUGHT. BLOOD TESTS, URINE TESTS, AND THE DOCTOR SAID, ''YOU HAVE A KIDNEY INFECTION.

MY FEVER WAS AT 102.5, AND THEN MY TEMP WENT TO 98.6, BACK TO NORMAL.  I WASN'T NO WHERE NEAR FEELING NORMAL, BUT WAS BETTER AFTER 6 HRS THERE.

I LEFT THE HOSPITAL WITH ANOTHER ANTIBIOTIC PRESCRIPTION.

BUT......ON THE WAY HOME. MY LEGS STARTED TO SHAKE, BY THE TIME I GOT HOME, FEVER WAS OVER ''SORT OF'', BUT MY WHOLE BODY WAS SHAKING, COULD HARDLY BREATH, COULD HARDLY TALK, IT WAS LIKE THE WORST CASE OF ''PARKINSON'S DISEASE YOU'D EVER SEE. I DOWNED 3 TYLENOL AND THE SHAKING WENT AWAY WITHIN A HOUR.

MY VA UROLOGIST CALL ME THIS MORNING BECAUSE HE WAS ALERTED OF MY CONDITION. HE SAID THE SHAKES WAS THE INFECTION FLOODING THROUGH MY BODY AGAIN!

IT'S MONDAY MORNING, NOW. I ACTUALLY GOT 10 HRS OF SLEEP, AND ATE SOMETHING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 3 DAYS.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

OCTOBER, SHOULD BE A BUSY MONTH...''SHOULD BE'' ''KEY WORDS''.  OCTOBER IS A HUGE TRANSITIONAL MONTH IN NE FLORIDA. THE LENGTH OF DAY LIGHT TRIGGERS IT. THE ''MULLET RUN'' - aka: schooling of the mullet baitfish, HAS EVERY FISH EATING THEM. I'M SUPPOSED TO BE VERY BUSY.

I HAVE 3 CHARTER'S STARTING FRIDAY. HOPE ALL IS BETTER BY THEN.

I WOULDN'T WISH THE THIS PAST WEEKEND INCLUDING FRIDAY ON ANYONE. IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER BEEN THROUGH.

NOW, I WAIT TO SEE IF I HAVE PROSTATE CANCER, THE DOCTOR WILL CALL ME WITH THE RESULT IN A WEEK TO 10 DAYS.

I'M NOT IN A POSITION TO LOOSE DAYS ON THE WATER.

9/24 - ALL I'M ''LIVING'' FOR....THE REASON I BREATH STILL (hahaha)

HAD TO CHASE THIS ONE...'deja vu' again...(see other report blow, same deal) Hell, I have very poor golfing skills and need jumbo clubs!! People really need some fishing skills to boat a 35 pounder on ''light'ish'' tackle.
We were just in 10 feet of water, because I hate that deep water, giant sinker, heavy tackle B.S. Thats done around here. Just recovering from blowing out my shoulder by all that deepwater anchoring. So, NO MORE of that 45' of water for me! GOT THIS ONE! But lost a smaller Redbass at the boat on live mullet. Action wasn't fast and furious. Also had one big Ladyfish, lost at boat also.

From now on, no more ''live bait'' rods and reels, for these bull Reds.

9/21 - Oh the stories I could tell you.....

Yep, the last two days are sure filled with loads of stories.

-Shoulder pain
-stuck anchor releasing tricks
-the MULLET RUN north of the St. Johns River is unbelievable!
Keyword: NORTH, of the St. Johns river.

In the river it's almost not even happening comparatively.

Lost monster Redfish....to chasing down Bull Redfish that want to spool the reels!

Crazy, Crazy Stuff.

Had this man have his 90th Birthday on my boat. He just beat the all-time-record of 85, by 5 years. He said, "oh, a youngster?"

he didn't act or look 90 to me!



This here, is 1 of 3 in a row, within minutes of each other on live mullet.
#1 got off the hook
#2 broke the 50# leader
#3 smoked off all the line on the reel and we had to pull anchor and chase it!! (33 pounder)

-all within less than 5 minutes as a school of bull Redfish swam by the boat in 15' of water!

My big Suzuki 250 Outboard gets annual maintenance, by changing the internal anode zincs. It's easy to do, and I can't run to the dealer everytime something needs to be done.

I can not drop my boat off and pick it up, MAYBE a week later!!  That's probably the toughest part of being in the charter fishing business in Jacksonville, FL.

I save thousands of dollars doing simple maintenance procedures
myself, on ''''my''' down days. On my schedule.  You can too, with simple hand tools, and a little bit of mechanical skills.  I have just that...''a little''. And lots of old hand tools.

I find the sociology of the public fascinating. I guess, that's what you'd call it by studying the flow of how the general public operates. I've had 22 years of practice watching how the ''gp'' works.

September is the worst month of year, for any activity, charter wise. Here is another September weekend, with perfectly good weather, and the JETTYWOLF sits, fuel tank full of $3.10 non-ethanol gas, clean as a whistle. Coolers cleaned out, ready for fresh ice, bearing on trailer freshly greased up, and batteries held at a perfect charge. That's called, READY TO GO!

BUT!!!! 

OH NO, LABOR DAY WAS LAST WEEK. SUMMER MUST BE OVER, ''WE CAN'T GO FISHING''   FOR JAX RESIDENTS, NO ONE IS VISITING....(NORMALLY, THE ONLY TIME A JAX. RESIDENT BOOKS A CHARTER, BECAUSE SOMEONE IS COMING FROM OUT OF TOWN OR OUT OF STATE.)

YOU SHOULD BE GETTING WITH ME RIGHT NOW, AND THINKING ABOUT YOUR FALL TRIP.

9/5 - My Jax Boat Club r-e-p-o-r-t

COMING VERY SOON 

As far as River and Jetty fishing (what I do) it's been a long hot summer (they all seem to be). And now it's time to look ahead to the fall season. My problem is; I don't know if I like Fall or Spring fishing better. All I know is, I don't care for Summer, that's for sure!  Come October it's all out combat fishing. I can get back in my favorite mode aboard the JETTYWOLF, and that means fishing the Mayport jetties, a lot more. All we need is the water temps to cool, have a few good storms drop in on us, and everything will really fall into place. (here comes, the Mullet Run. They are on the move, already.) 

The New Moon in October is the week of the 6th through the 11th, it will be wicked strong! And the Full Moon is the 24th, a bit calmer. Which fits in line with one of the greatest weeks of the year. Halloween, and the Florida vs. Georgia Football game. And from then on till Mother's Day 2019, I call it, ''JETTYWOLF TIME''. (you should be able to insert your name too!)  If you're not catching big Bull Redfish that week by the numbers, from the river, jetties and beaches....."then what are you waiting for?"
