1/1/ 2018 !!!! Full Moon approaching, Cold, Wind, Tough going, this week.

Been out almost everyday this week and the 26th was the most unbelievably productive, while the rest of the days we struggled.

Take yesterday as a example. Gave the float-rigging a break, because of so many "small Trout". Myself and Traveller Bob, a l-o-n-g time customer who can catch a fish in a mud puddle....we struggled and never caught a keeper Sheepshead at all.

But on a "new'ish" spot we sat sheltered and warmer and caught over a dozen pup Redfish, a small Sheepshead, a small Black Drum and we could have just kept going and going. Fiddler Crabs on a jighead just incase. We both banged 14-16 inch Reds on damn near ever cast, over and over.

A great spot, very over looked by "everyone". But yesterday....it was Romper room & Seasame Street all in one with the youngster fish we caught.

We fished hard a long the day before for Trout. I had 3 guys aboard and we float-rig fished and had mostly ZERO, the first three hours of the TOO HIGH of a tide.
Then, got into small Specks and some "okay" Yellowmouth Trout, just big enough to drop in the box. With only 3 keeper size Specks all day. It was SOOOOOO COLDDDDD. And that was not only a problem with the day, but with my fisherman.

It's okay though.

Regular "work a day Joes" who no nothing about Mother Nature, have no clue. but this Angler does. LAST YEAR ON THIS DAY, it was 80+ degrees!!!

It was a terrible winter of fishing. It set records for high temps. Yes, the cold and wind have my hands stiff. I feel beat up.

But I won't complain. Because like Hurricane's I believe thru "MY" time on the water we need this, and those storms...."later down the line."

What goes on now, will help the local fishing later come Spring.   Just like Hurricanes flush all the nasty out of the river and rejuvenate it. All the HOT, goes away, practically over night with replenishing FRESHWATER...called RAIN!

here's what I do on days that are raining and cold in the winter. I take care of things that need to be done!   YOU SHOULD TOO!

12/26 - "SWEETHEART" Trout Massacre // FIN-NOR SALE!!!

Oh yeah, basically one spot, (where I've had previous massacres before in the dead of winter)

plus 2 pup Redfish and 2 large Croakers. YEP, basically all on one spot, in the howling 20 knot winds. plus.....6 Sheepshead. (small ones, but still a great day.) Threw back 4 Sheeps that were way too small to keep.

NO MATCH AT ALL FOR THE MAKITA AND FILLETZALL BLADE!

What a day! In the cold wind. I LOVE IT. Dressing right, is just common sense. No big deal. Fish the best time of year, for inshore fishing in Jacksonville, Florida. Fall-winter-spring!!

Can't do photo's or video on the boat any longer, due to spot stealer's and tent pitchers, fishing my spots as soon as the photos or video is posted. SORRY.

So, here's a dock shot.  2 ''plus'', 1 gallon bags of fillets

TROUT TO 24 INCHES!

PILING SHEEPSHEAD ATOP, THE SWEETHEARTS!

Then, the next day again post "front", small Trout & small Sheepshead, all on the same spots. in the 20 knot winds.  what a difference 24 hrs can make. with only 4 keeper Trout and all throw back Sheepshead.

12/15 - NEWEST FISHBITES PRO STAFF

''LOVE ME, THE NON-SMELLY, DRY, FISHBITES''
MY FISHBITES.COM BIO PAGE:

Life long fisherman from freshwater to salt. Offshore 50 miles, to a foot of water in a back creek.
Capt Dave has done a lot in his 21 year fishing career. From hosting a Saturday morning fishing radio talk show in Jacksonville, to producing two of his own instructional 40 minute how-to tapes on fishing for inshore species. He participated in promoting/selling Carolina Skiff bay boats, for a local dealership. And is a long time member of the Jacksonville Offshore Sport Fishing Club, serving on the board of directors for many years.

Capt Dave's charter fishing business is centered around his first love. Fishing the St. Johns River Inlet. After fishing numerous size and style boats through out the years, in 1996 he put in his order to have his present charter boat built. A boat that would be the ultimate "family friendly", but tough as nails, charter boat. One that would never shy away from the big water of the Mayport Jetties, but was equally at home fishing the St. Johns River, Nassau River and Intracoastal waterway. So, it's easy to say, he's probably most known for his boat the "Jettywolf". In this area, it's quite unique. Being a custom built all welded aluminum plate 26 foot center console, fitted with a mega-sized top and "square dancing space" to fish from. Capt Dave's Sport Fishing targets all inshore species 12 months a year, 7 days a week, that are seasonally sought after. His specialty is Speckled Sea Trout, and big ones! Capt. Dave has a extensive Youtube channel, highlighting his customers, techniques, various species, how-to's, and his addiction to fine tackle.

SO, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU?  WE'LL BE USING FISHBITES NEWEST BAITS. THE ''FIGHT CLUB SOFT PLASTICS'' A TOUGH, HEAVILY SCENTED, NON-WET, NON SLIMEY BAIT.

12/14 - ETHANOL, WHERE YOU BUY BOAT FUEL

EXXON GAS STATION, ATLANTIC & GIRVIN ROAD INTERSECTION.
''ETHANOL LEVEL''

Been buying all my boat fuel, and diesel there for at least 12 years. Been testing the ethanol level of the regular gasoline for years. Haven't tested in a few years, since I got my Suzuki 250 SS, because it's built for up to E15. But today figured, ''what the heck,'' This station has never tested anywhere near 10% allowed ethanol. HERE'S TODAY'S TEST...ABOUT 6%, SO MY UNSCIENTIFIC TEST SHOWED.
ETHANOL TESTING IS SUPER EZ.

Beware!!!!!! Not all gas stations are below the 10% allowable. Years ago, I tested the reg. gas at the SHELL STATION, at ATLANTIC blvd & SAN PABLO rd.
That fuel tested at the max of 10% Ehanol. Never been back since. Same as Walmart gas, at Atlantic & Kernan road.

12/14 - CATCHIN & CLEANIN.....HUGE WINDS, STILL EZ FISHING

http://www.captdaves.com - (904) 642-9546 Book your charter Today! PLEASE READ VIDEO DESCRIPTION "JETTYWOLF LIVE" - 12/13/2017 Started out calm and cold. By mid-day it was warmer and gusting to 25 kt winds and the TROUT didn't care! Caught approx 20 Trout from 14" to 17", boxing our 12 fish for 2 persons Florida limit, easily. DON'T BE A COUCH POTATO.....the fish love winter in Jacksonville, Fl. It's the best time of year for inshore fishing. Period. Especially on a weekday......NO, Friday's are not a weekday in the fishing world. They are Monday thru Thursday's. Trying out the NEWEST Filletzall blade with my Makita 'one hand' reciprocating saw. WAY BETTER, STRONGER than any electric fillet knife. Especially for tough, SALTWATER species. WITH the Filletzall blades. Trying out the newest blade, the Freshwater Plus, blade. For smaller, lighter fish. But still.....Speckled Trout not being a tough fish in any way. It was a great trial. They are delicate, have no large tuff scales. Are slimey as all hell, and their bodies are sort of soft. But once I got the hang of it. The Filletzall "freshwater PLUS" blade worked like a charm. NO real need to use such a fish cleaning machine on Speckled Trout. BUT, I wanted to see how it would work , anyhow. https://www.filletzall.com -check out the full line up of Reciprocating saw fillet blades. ''I FEAR NO FISH'' , Cleaning Sheepshead with FILLETZALL video: https://youtu.be/W4teOl1jR-c ------------------------------------------------------------ TO MY SUBSCRIBERS: I'm really wanting to take my Youtube channel to the next level, (if I can manage to) I want to do more product tests for you. 12/14 - my JAX BOAT CLUB, fishing forecast:

The Multi-Species, "Relaxation Method"

HUH?
Is what you're probably thinking, after reading that title.
Well, that's how I feel about my favorite way of winter fishing. And I do a lot of it. Right Now.
"Float-rig fishing", aka: a slip float fishing. With a bait well full of frisky winter Shrimp.

Anchor up along any rocky, shell covered, area. Or between some docks with lots of old pilings.
Set your depth of your float, pin on a live shrimp, and drop it behind the boat and let N.E. Florida's St. Johns River, or Intracoastal waterway's unnatural abundance of tidal current drift your float near the structure.
-Float goes down..."FISH-ON". And start reeling!  NO, precision casting needed.
NO, loosing rigs, sinkers and hooks.  NO, trolling motor needed.

Right now you can catch; Speckled Sea Trout, Yellowmouth Trout (weakfish), Redfish, Black Drum, Flounder, Croakers, and even the fall & winter seasons most popular fish of all time. Sheepshead!  By simply fishing one rig, and hitting some structure spots, anchored up. Chilling out. Staying clean, no messy baits, all in the 4 to 20' depths.

I find it a very relaxing way to fish. And many of my customers "get hooked" on it. Calling to request a day of Float-rig fishing.  Yes, it's known as a great way to Trout fish. But, believe me. If it eats a shrimp. You can catch it. It's a technique that's rooted in tradition, and has been catching multiple species of fish. From the Carolina's through Ga. basically south to Daytona. Where ever, the tide can be made useful. Rather than be a aggravation.

Lately, for myself and customers. It's been limits of Speckled Trout, mixed with Sheepshead.

Here's what I'm talking about. Youtube Video link:  https://youtu.be/VoXeQjULdHk  On a burning cold ''double hood'' Dec. morning.

Don't let the cold and wind fool you into being a couch potato. No one ever caught a ''Trophy fish'', eating chips, watching TV.  Right now, is some of the best inshore fishing of the year!

Want to learn the fine art of ''relaxing, and Float-rig fishing?''  Give me a call or shoot me a e-mail and reserve a day aboard the Jettywolf.

-obviously ''cold'', but productive, float-rig fishing

12/10 - 1/2 the best inshore season is OVER ALREADY!!!

DO YOU REALIZE, THAT BY DECEMBER EACH YEAR, THE BEST INSHORE FISHING SEASON IS OVER ALREADY?

NO, THE FISHING ISN'T THE BEST IN JACKSONVILLE WHEN IT'S 100 DEGREES, AS VACATIONERS THINK IT IS.

THEY FISH DURING THE HEAT, BUT WANT EVERYTHING ON A SILVER PLATTER. WHEN IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!

THEY STEP OFF MY BOAT, TURN AROUND AND ALWAYS ASK, ''WHEN IS IT THE BEST??

I REPLY, ''WHEN YOU WON'T COME HERE. OCT. THRU APRIL."

SO RIGHT NOW, YOU'VE MISSED 1/2 OF IT ALREADY!!!!!!!

JETTYWOLF LIVE
A bit of R&D, St. Johns river out of Mayport Florida. Foggy, breezy, cold and rained too.
Common winter weather. (Footage of 1 out of 6 Black Drum.)
Just because its winter, doesn't mean you can't fish.

The BEST INSHORE, RIVER , INLET FISHING of the year, isn't when it's 100 degrees outside, as most northerners think. INSHORE FISH, hate the heat as much as I do!

12/8 - Jacksonville Offshore Sport Fishing Club

Went to the JOSFC meeting last night.  ''Clam chowder night!'' yum, yum.

I haven't been to my ''Alma Mata'' in months and months. But a cold, rainy night made for a perfect time to attend.

There was a election in October, so the reigns have been passed on, once again.

The club house was packed. And the evenings emphasis was on a raffle to generate funds for a family in need. And indeed the membership stepped up.
Last count was $3000 plus dollars in just a few hours.  (that's more than all my bills for 2 months! Wonder if they could hold another raffle for really poor fishing guides named Dave?)

So many faces have changed. But there's still a few folks that were members 25 years ago, in attendance. Not many, but they were there.

Good ole Capt. George Strait (of Miss Mayport & Mayport Princess local party boat fame) was there, to say a few words. ''A few words he did.'' Which was, unlike him. But he did start off with a good joke.  I was a bit surprised that it was 10 years ago when he was club president. Wow, does time fly!

One change I noticed and was very surprised about, was the club's President asking everyone to stand, face our U.S. flag, a repeat the Pledge of Allegiance.

I couldn't have been more impressed.

ANOTHER CHRISTMAS IDEA FOR A ANGLER

As a pro-staff fishing guide now, for FISHBITES. (if you're a local and you don't know what Fishbites (St. Augustine Florida) are, shame, shame, shame, on YOU!)

I'll be posting some deals. And right now it's all about the new Fight Club line of baits.

And just in, HERE'S  GREAT IDEA FOR THE FISHERMAN IF NOT YOUR SELF.

4 bags of Fishbites Fightclub lures, two of the Fight Club jig heads and free shipping in 50 states for just $21.99.

check these new Fishbites baits out
 https://fishbites.com/saltwater/ffc-stocking-stuffers/

Soon, I'll be doing a new Video all about the ""new"" Fight Club line of baits.  I have a rigging method and even a species and a area I'm wanting to use them.

12/7 - the ''INSHORE'' cross-over boat?

GLASS AND ALUMINUM?
pontoons?
hmmmmm. I'd like to see this first hand, myself.

real unique?
worth it?
or
Disaster?

probably less of a Atlantic coastal boat. More of a Gulf coaster boat, in my opinion.

interesting though. has a few features that regular glass boats should pick up on.

just a Capt. Dave's fishing report's ''find'', I'd thought I'd share.

ALL GLASS VERSION:

Here's my next "Bay Boat".....really. Isn't a bay boat one that you can beat up on a Oysterbed?  Bump a dock you're tying up too? Beach it on a rocky shoreline?

Or is that just the way I'd treat a bay boat?  hahahahahaha

I tell everyone IF I wasn't in the people carrying business, this is all I'd have.
TWEAKED of course. But here's the standard model 20 footer of a "mini-me".
Just add a Jackplate!

12/6 - EVEN SMALL SHEEPS... NO MATCH FOR THE FILLETZALL BLADE

YES, WE ROBBED THE CRADLE AT THE NURSERY, WITH A PILE OF SHEEPS (photo was missing a few) RELEASED MANY A 12 INCHER.

THE JETTIES WERE NOTHING BUT BAIT-STEALERS AND SMALL TROUT.

SEE VIDEO HERE:  https://youtu.be/W4teOl1jR-c

what a gorgeous morning it was today.see what you're missing?
besides fishing on a wonderful "weekday" with no one to bother us
MY OFFICE VIEW!!!!

There was "twin" Rainbows as we left the dock, actually.

Had two Channel 12 Local News weather folks on the boat this morning, doing video and interview (of your's truly) for a Feb 2018 Story about the river after Hurricane Irma.

12/5 - I'm a recovered Sheepshead hater

http://www.captdaves.com - 904-642-9546 Book your charter Today!

"JETTYWOLF'S HOW-TO"
Sheepshead, the one inshore fish that must yield the least amount of fillet of them all.  Love them or hate them. I've never met anyone who says how much they love cleaning them.

With the most rediculous limit of all inshore/coastal regulated fish in the state of Florida at 15 per person at 12 inches. I usually don't have to worry about my customers "limiting out" on them, since not many people are prepared for the light bite of a Sheepshead. Especially when dangling a Fiddler Crab into structure with current!

But there is those days, when we get our fair share, along with a Black Drum or two, or a actual "keeper sized" Redfish. I used to DREAD having to fillet a bunch of Sheepshead, especially.

Hunters, I think you can benefit too.
There's even a special 'FRESH WATER', fish cleaning blade.
Offshore fisherman
Party boat Captains
We all wish for a better solution

I've have sheepshead dorsal fin's stab me between the fingers. Have them twitch and fall off the cutting table, "dorsal fin down" and have their dorsal spines, go right thru my rubber boot and into my foot!!

They maybe fun to catch. But that's where the FUN has always ended for me!

MY LIFE HAS JUST CHANGED!!
