2/14 - LUV ON THE HOOK....Valentines day!

Can't say I ever charter fished on my birthday before. For many years me and my Pop's would head south to the big Miami Boat Show that's held over this week.

We did that for years and years. But it now is so expensive to go & stay, it's out of a Jacksonville Fishing Guides budget.

Was supposed to take Pierre out on Monday, but switched to today because he thought maybe his son could come along. But that fell through. So he went all by himself.

So with another day of a crew of one. I headed out in the deep fog at 8am.

A dozen or so Trout, and 4 big Redfish over 30 inches. We finally had to call it quits because Pierre needed to get on the road for some visits to S. Florida.

BUT...if ya are doing a one person charter. YOU will make out. Because I can be your "ringer". And help you out when it comes to fish in the box. "extra fish in the B-O-X!"

1/27 - another non-trout limit try......

SOLO R&D,  TRIED HUNTING 6 KEEPERS.
NOPE......NO 6 KEEPERS, TODAY. REALLY CRAPPY DAY. BUT HAD LOTS OF R&D TO DO.

MOTHER NATURE SEEMED TO FIGHT EVERYTHING I TRIED.

TOO BAD, MOST OF THE TROUT I CAUGHT WERE 14 INCHES.  ONE 16 INCHER MADE THE RIDE HOME.

SHRIMP SO BIG & BAD.....!

YES, IT WAS A STRUGGLE.  MAX 51 DEGREE WATER, OVER-CAST, NOT PARTICULARLY WARM, EXCEPT ON ''LAND''.  PEOPLE IN BOATS..................''EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!''   

EVEN CRAPPY WEATHER SATURDAYS SUCK.  NOT ENOUGH SPOTS, AND TOO MANY HUMANS.

IF GAS WAS CHEAPER, I KNOW WHERE I'D GO, WHERE THERE'S NO ONE ANCHORED, EVERY 300 YARDS. BUT, I'M A VERY POOR FISHERMAN, ON A VERY TIGHT BUDGET, WHEN DOING SOLO R&D.

-fished my hand made 1 ounce swing-jigs, with jumbo shrimp. They work. Just need more fish to bite.

-used new boat deck mat. Trying to save deck paint, on boat.

-my oxygen system is a real winner! Matched up too my divided Icey-tech cooler as a baitwell / fishbox / seat.  LOVE IT!

1/23 - Oh, that water's COLD!

Recently

16" Trout that felt like a ice cube

17 inch Croaker, same spot different day.

The fact is the local waters are COLD.....last year when we had NO winter. This same time of the month it was 67 degree water.

Now, (yesterday) I measured a whopping 49-51 'ish on my sounder (surface temp).

The only fish we've been catching "inconsistently" are small Redfish, small Black Drum and small Croakers.

I've been doing my best to find some large Sheepshead. And that hasn't worked out very well.

Wanting to really use my Makita & Filletzall blades really badly!   If you have no ide what I'm talking about then you missed this ""VIDEO""

The last time I went float-rig fishing with a livewell full of shrimp. they all died once they hit the water barely lasting one drift behind the boat.

With Trout being very finicky when it comes to being too cold (water temp) I laid off float-rig fishing this past week.

But since zero else is a ""Hot bite"", I'll be going back. Because it's at least better than, what I have been doing, which has been "low & slow" bottom bouncing.

The Jetties?  My gawd, for me it's been a dead-zone!

Sterotypically, The Trout really thrive in the 63-68 degree temps.

Doubt we'll see that this weekend, but it can't (water temp) get any much lower than it has. It has to go warmer, I'd think.

I love a good winter..."who doesn't?"  No sweating fishing. Bait stealers vacate the area. But this has been a big one so far.

At least this may kill off (GAWD I HOPE!!!) all the little Mangrove Snappers. So by April, we can Trout fish successfully instead of feeding expensive live shrimp to 6" bait nippers.
